How to record your first YouTube video with a Mac (2016 Update)

How to look great in your first KZfaq video
1. Don’t have too much space above your head. Your eye level smack at the middle of the screen is a big no-no. So does having it anywhere at the bottom half of your screen. If you want to look great, make sure to have your eye-level at least two-thirds up from the bottom of the screen.
2. Look directly at the lens. Make sure to look directly at the camera, not at the monitor or anywhere else.
3. Talk directly to the camera. Take a deep breath and don’t forget to smile every now and then.
Creating your first KZfaq video using Photo Booth
1. Head over to Applications
2. Open Photo Booth. By default, it starts in photo mode. If you look at the lower left corner you’ll see three buttons with the middle one highlighted blue.
3. Switch to video recording mode. At the lower left corner, click the third button. Shifting from photo to video mode also changes the red button at the center from a camera to a video camera.
4. Click the Record button. You will be given a three-second countdown before it begins recording.
5. Click the Stop button once you’re done. Don’t forget to smile at the end of your video!
6. Choose the file you just recorded by clicking the corresponding thumbnail at the bottom. Click File, Export then Save.
How to Upload your first KZfaq video
1. Head over to KZfaq and login with your Google account.
2. Click Upload at the upper right corner.
3. Drag and drop the file to the upload screen.

Thank you I have been looking for how to upload videos on my mac and was surprised to find out there isn't a simple icon with a video camera or even labeled camera at all. The whole thing was confusing since i am not the average MAC book user and usually vent on windows but i found the mac book experience to be most pleasant. this is also the first time i am experiencing things in HD as i am used to 24fps video quality. You have taught me in the quickest manner possible. Those of you who want to know how to record, it's under Photo Booth, with the picture spilt in 4's . You can usually find it at your default toolbox but if you are having trouble or not there by default for any reason just click f4 and search for it.

FYI - I'm working on a video about how to remove stuff from an iPhone (5 or newer) using a USB stick. But a Mac will always have more space than a phone! Good luck with your videos!

There was no upload button just an icon which said upload but when i did it didn't bring up the sign in page. When it uploads is it automatically on YT to be seen?

If you are already signed in, it should bring up a page to upload the video (drag and drop it onto the screen.) Then you need to click "publish" after it's uploaded for it to be visible.

I'm wondering if I get a macbook air if I can do this at my apartment that has no internet. It says storage is 4gb on the MacBook air so I'm wondering if it will be able to store any videos or if I'll need an external hard drive

I think you may be confusing RAM and Storage. Or GB vs TB. 4GB is more likely a RAM number - but a relatively small number for RAM. But 4GB for storage would be like buying a computer from 1997. When I make a video, I have on average 5GB of video files. Perhaps you mean 4TB of storage, which is more likely. In which case you'd have room for hundreds of videos.

I have a mac mini and a webcam on my monitor. I dont know where the mic is, and if so, is the webcam enough? it picks up my voice just fine.

It's not important to know where the mic is - just the camera. If you should good, then the mic is in a good place!

Hi Brighton. I am old and tech challenged! You are very good at showing everything. However, the very first step is to find Photo Booth in the Apps Store. I entered photo booth and it brought me to Boothsy for Mac. (I tried three times) I downloaded Boothsy and all it's taking is photos, and there is no place to change over to video mode. I think I must have an older Mac. Could you please give me another option that will do videoing on my mac that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg? Thanks so much!

Thanks Susan. PhotoBooth should be included with your Mac - look in the finder under Apps. Otherwise, you can use Quicktime Player (also included with your Mac) Go to File:New Movie Recording. I need to make a video about this!
