Here's what you will learn :
I will be demonstrating an example of accidental collection drop.Then i would explain how to restore that lost collection back to database using oplog replay after taking mongodump of the oplog collection and restoring it back using mongorestore.

Hello Vemara, it is a good video. well will this work in realistic situation? Let us take an example my oplog size is 10 GB and the collection which I have dropped in 50 GB, now in this case my oplog will not be able to accommodate the 50 GB of data. so I can not restore the entire data right? so this wont work when we delete the huge data which is more than a oplog size?

Hi Thanks for Watching. The purpose of video is to explain point in time recovery and how oplog can be used to restore database to a desired point. For practical cases there would be a lot of variables to consider including oplog size.Will be doing more videos on real time production issues and troubleshooting.Will be including these then. Thanks for the video.. oplog is a capped collection so there is a possibility that some data might be overwritten and not recoverable. If having daily or hourly backups the solution for that?

thank you for watching. yes , since its a capped collection, recommendation is to backup oplog just like you backup data. mongodump --oplog

By mistake I drop my collection, But I could not found the drop collection in the oplog. Is there any other way to recover the drop collection?

Refer mongo university website videos and practise on mongo db atlas or local installation.Refer my videos for short snippets of different mongo db aspects.

Check your oplog limit using rs.printReplicationInfo() and if it still has oplog time than the time starting you dropped your db, use the method in my video to restore your database.
