OK, so now you've learned how to make a Polymer Clay Skinner Blend (Teardrop Blend), made it into a strip and then made a Skinner Blend Cane Plug (Square Cane), now how do you reduce it into a variety of sizes for bead making? This short video will show you how... #polymerclaytutorials #skinnerblend #reducingpolymerclaycanes

This was very helpful because you worked the cane for a while so we could actually see the reduction happen. Also helpful to see the final products. I am new to polymer clay and would have like a bead sample from this or other ideas of what to do with the reduced can. Thanks. .

this vid was made a couple of years ago, I have recently seen someone using long square blocks to work square canes, one on each side of the cane and squeeze, rotate the cane and repeat. if it doesn't sound daft, they are a bit like square rolling pins. it seemed to work well (I haven't tried them, still using the techniques shown here....)

Hello, Im still new to trying these skinner blends and I seem to be having issues with my piece of cane mysteiously shrinking kinda.... each time I roll it through my pasta machine. I mean I fold it in half and roll it through, fold it and roll it, and there gets to be less and less to fold it seems..I really cant explain it, but do you know what I mean? LOL sorry I cant explain it better.

Hi Cindy, thank you for this helpful tutorial. I have a separate but related question. Do you have any tips for reducing a round cane without distorting the design? I want to make a stud earring pack but each time I begin reducing, by the time I cut it, the design has distorted. I don't roll the cane very often. Just light pinching and slight pull to lengthen it. Some folks suggested I reduce the clay once it has become stiff. Sadly, this didn't help either. What would you suggest?
@caffienatedtactician
@caffienatedtactician 2 жыл бұрын
I know I'm not who you asked, but uf you find your design being distorted so much that it's unrecognizable, I would recommend making the details of the design more exaggerated, since the details will become less defined the more you roll the clay

As a beginner in polymer clay, can you make tutorials on what you would do with these canes...ive made a blend but dont know what to do with them? Also on clay itself, how much do we need for a project, what would you get out of a pack?
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 9 жыл бұрын
Hi ***** I have done many tutorials that use teardrop blends in them. As far as how much clay you will need, that really depends on the project. I usually explain in my tutorials how much clay you will need. For my info on those tutorials go to my website at www.polymerclaytutor.com and use the search box to find what you need.

Hi Cindy, always enjoy your lessons. I can't remember if you've shown us "Natasha" or mirror-image beads. I love making them from my scraps, but have trouble re-assembling the pieces so that they are smooth and square. Would also like to know other ideas for using the mirror-images- maybe not as beads, or in different shaped beads. Thanks

Great tutorial, Cindy. I'm confused a bit about how much pressure I should use when reducing a cane. I tend to be a bit impatient...
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Elizabeth Drake the only way to get really good at reducing canes is to practice. Make one of these Multicolored Teardrop Blend (Rainbow Skinner Blend) and then follow my steps. Keep trying until you get good at it... once you have done it a few times you will be able to judge what kind of pressure you will need to use. Try your best not to rush it. If you need to, watch tv while doing it so you aren't in as much of a hurry to see how it turns out. Have fun!

I do have a couple of questions. 1. How can you use an unbaked cane on something, say a pen or crochet hook without it getting distorted when applying it? 2. I watched your translucent video and purchased my translucent clay according to your findings. Now I tried to make some gummy bears and they ended up looking creamy. Am I to do something special to make it look transparent?

Hi familyperrine the best way to find answers to your polymer clay questions is to go to my site at www.polymerclaytutor.com and type your keywords into the search box there. It is too hard for me to answer everyone in detail anymore.

Perfect squares are tricky because the clay is soft. You may need to sand the cubes a bit after baking to make them more square.

Hi Amanda Lauren Polymer clay doesn't really dry out because it is out of the package... it dries out when the oils have been leached tout of it. I have several videos that deal with hard clay. Here is the first one: Conditioning Hard Polymer Clay - Tip #1 Using a Hammer

Hi Yuderka Celadilla I prefer to use the commercially available polymer clay brands rather than to make it myself. As a professional I need the consistency of quality and color that I just would not get with a homemade clay.

Is there any possible way to use your pasta machine to make pasta after you've used polymer clay in it? I hate the idea of ruining one of my kitchen tools. Detest the idea of spending more money on another one for crafting.
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I get that. The issue is that the typical pasta machine is quite difficult to really clean, therefor once you switch between pasta and clay, you risk clay getting in your pasta and pasta getting in your clay. That's not something you want! 😝

Hi TheGurlyMinecrafter 2000 When you want to reduce a cane that is a difficult shape to reduce, you usually pack the background with translucent clay until you have a round or square cane that is easier to reduce.
