How To Register A Kayak in Texas +Sticker Placement

All motorized vessels, regardless of length (including any sailboat with an auxiliary engine)...
If you have a motor, the boat has to be registered. I took the steps to get it done and I'm providing somewhat of a cheat-sheet for your.

The stability is near perfect, provided you don’t step on the sides of it. I just don’t like the way it tracks when paddling

Any vessel you put a motor on needs registration. I used to think it had to be a certain hp of motor and that trolling motors didn’t count but that’s inaccurate. You need registration

No. The motor doesn’t have to be registered. Only the boat.

so the PWD 143 is all i need or do i need to fill out the PWD 144 outboard motor application as well ? and did you have to take your boat with you ?

You don’t need the boat. And if you’re using a trolling motor, you don’t need to register the motor, only the boat.

Not sure where you put the cost for title and registration, you mentioned fine was $250 for not having tags? Thought you were going to post amounts at "Below"?

It’s there. It looks like either the links have changed or KZfaq doesn’t allow clickable pdf’s. Try copying and pasting, if not, there’s a link to the entire site and finding it from there shouldn’t be too hard

Do you know if they had it registered before? If you're only registering it for the first time because you're putting a motor on it, I would write a receipt showing that I bought it from a buddy and get them to sign it. Yes the hole punch is the month and the “3” is 23. Correct.

Someone is selling a inflatable pontoon boat I wanna throw a trolley motor on it when asking the guy if the pontoon has a title he said no title or no serial number I’m assuming it came like that factory? What do I do at that point? Can I get it registered still some how or I can still put a small motor in it if it doesn’t have a serial number

As far as I know you still would need to register it. Use a Bill of Sale in place of the title and I would contact your local TPWD directly on the serial number part. They may assign you a number

I didn’t. I don’t believe it’s necessary to register the motor itself
