APE Part 1: AACA Logbook and Statement of Practical Experience
Part 1 of the APE determines a candidate’s eligibility to sit the National Examination
Paper. This is assessed through documented practical experience in relation to the
mandatory Performance Criteria.
These practical experience requirements are recorded in a condensed form via
the online AACA Logbook and are detailed in the Statement of Practical Experience.
Candidates applying for entry to the APE Part 1 must submit the following:
• Evidence of approved qualification/entry pathway
• Completed application form
• Completed logbook (submitted from the AACA online logbook portal)
• Statement of Practical Experience (with completed APE Performance Criteria Report)
• Statutory Declaration attesting to the accuracy of all the documentation submitted
Practical Experience Requirements
All APE Part 1 candidates must have a minimum of 3300 hours of experience, ranging
across all the 35 Performance Criteria required for this part. Experience must include
a minimum of 12 months and 1650 hours in Australia.
The required minimum 3300 hours are subject to the following limitations:
• Experience must be gained over a minimum of two years.
(This is based on 38 hours per week, as per the Architects Award 2020. The
minimum experience cannot be accumulated as overtime within a shorter period.)
• Experience must be gained in the ten years prior to applying for the APE Part 1.
(Experience obtained more than ten years prior to application cannot be included
in the AACA Logbook or the Statement of Experience.)
• Periods less than the full-time equivalent of eight weeks continuous duration with
one employer should not be included. Check with your state or territory board for
clarification about jurisdiction-specific time requirements.
The required minimum 3300 hours must include:
• A minimum of 1650 hours (accumulated in a minimum of one year) undertaken
in Australia following graduation from an approved qualification/entry pathway.

Good video and good on you for making people aware about the registration process in Australia. The only thing I will add is that the course description and portfolio you submit to get your Indian (or any home country) degree assessed and validated by AACA, ensure that it complies with the National Standard of Competency for Architects (NSCA) criteria. Without proven NSCA compliance, your degrees will fail the AACA assessment.

if we do masters from australia itself, do we still have to go through the exams and interviews to get license or be registered or is it a different process

Yes, irrespective of whether you do your masters in Australia or not, if you want to be registered in Australia you have to go through licensure exam (logbook + written exam + interview). Doing masters in Australia provides you an Australian degree that is (pre) endorsed by AACA. If you don’t have masters (or bachelors) from Australia, you have to get your Indian (or home country) degree assessed and validated from AACA, as mentioned in this video.

Hi brother I have a doubt.. I have completed bachelor of architecture in India and if I take master of construction management in Australia will I still be eligible to work as an architect in Australia
@ArchiVlogs.
@ArchiVlogs. 3 ай бұрын
Masters in Construction management won't help you to register as an architect there, you will need to do 2 years masters of architecture ro get registered there.

Oh ok thanks for the reply and one more doubt. What if I took master of Design will I still be eligible or do I have to specifically pick master of architecture,just for the reminder I still hold a b arch degree from India. Tnx

You cannot work as an ‘Architect’ in Australia till you are registered / licensed in Australia because the title of architect is protected by law. You can however work as a graduate of architecture, experienced graduate of architecture, architectural assistant, architectural technician or designer in Australia. FYI - You can do master of construction management and still get registered as an architect if you can successfully validate your Indian BArch degree by AACA and log the sufficient hours of work in Australia, as per this video. To collect sufficient hours of work, you can work under any of those job titles I have mentioned above. Also remember eligibility to work in Australia as an employee has nothing to do with registration. If you want to work in Australia as a firm owner or employer, then you need to be registered or partner with a registered architect.
