I don't usually comment but giving people an option to regulate it without buying a $200+ time grapher is something I really appreciate. You deserve more subscribers.

Hi Oliver, thank you again for your support. It is a pleasure making these videos and hopefully people can tell it is driven by passion. Ah, so interesting to hear your background... it turns out I am also a physician (pulmonology & sleep)! What specialty area are you in? So I am definitely no expert in watches but I do my best to fix people too. Cheers, Ivan.

The isochronism lever regulates the beat error, centralises the impulse jewel in the escape lever fork so the clockwise and anticlockwise amplitude of the balance wheel is symmetrical (even beat) I am sure you knew this. Good informative video. Thank you.

Thank you very much for that... I made that video quite a while ago and I had an idea of what the isochronism lever does, but probably didn't know how to explain it clearly. I know a lot better now, but thank you for taking the time to post a helpful comment! Cheers, Ivan.

To get a good sound recording I use a contact microphone that I have glued a crocodile clip on to. I clip it on to the crown of the watch. Then I run it through a guitar pre-amp. The contact mic is very sensitive, but does NOT pick up any ambient noise, so it's perfect for this kind of use. (Contact mics are less than $2 on ebay. The pre-amp costs a little more, but if you play the guitar you may already have one. :)

Thank you so much for this video. I already had audio editing software on the PC (Adobe Audition), but never considered using my phone as the recording device. My Miyota 8215 driven watch has been running over +15 sec/day but after three rounds of adjusting the regulator I've got it down to -.001 sec/min! :)

After using my phone as a recorder it dawned on me to look and see if there were any watch tuning phone apps. Sure enough I found an app called Clock Tuner for Android. It recommends using an external mic but it works great laying the watch on the phone's mic. It even works well listening through the case back. The free version only works for 30 mins before prompting you to buy the "Premium" version, but what's $4 for the convenience of having a timegrapher on your phone, right?

Thank you for the video brother I have finally gotten enough guts to start regulating my watches and I'm very happy I finally pulled the trigger I started with a ticino sea Viper with a miyota 8000 only 150 buck watch and got it running a couple sec a day off unbelievable a miyota is capable of that made me confident enough to try more expensive watches like my seikos and phiobos watches. Haven't regulated my mido with the ETA 2836 yet but am working up the courage to do so it's a screw adjustment like u showed in video so should be easier. But I'm afraid of opening a 1500 buck watch so idk ... great video very helpful

hi there. me wanna ask, how do you see or find which is which beat that is off, and then starts measuring the + or - of the mili sec? Cos i see alot of spikes on mine, dont know which to take from.. (like your example from your 30secs onward)
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 6 жыл бұрын
Hi there... good question. Firstly if there are a lot of additional spikes then it's likely that there is too much ambient noise. Try using a quieter area or covering microphone and watch with a muffling material (like a towel). You should be able to get a clean signal that shows clear spikes for the movement sound. Secondly take a look at first 1 or 2 secs... no matter how badly timed your movement is you should still expect to see a spike at the second mark provided you've picked the correct spike to start with. Use this to help you recognise the pattern. All the best!

Perth watch u wouldn't believe what I discovered several of my watches started running fast and I couldn't figure out why. Turned out I was slowly magantizing them with my vaporizer it has strong magnets in it to hold the case back on and when I vape with my left hand it slowly magantized several of them over the course of a month or so . Bought a cheap demagntizer and there all running good again. Side note my invicta dive watch was magnetized to but wasn't running any different it stayed very accurate. Just thought that was interesting that being magantized didn't affect it like the other 3 watches. Love your channel I just subscribed
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that, how fascinating! Magnetisation is a well known problem for mechanical watches, although the surprise here is that your device had a strong enough field to cause it! What watches were those had the problem? Also I'm curious to know how you are sure that your Invicta was magnetised? Depending on the watch case design and the strength of the field, it could perhaps have been used with your vaporiser and not be magnetised...
@trackpackgt877
@trackpackgt877 6 жыл бұрын
Perth WAtch I used a compass to figure out they were magantized I'm sure u know about that. 2 of them were cheap tevise watches the other one was a old hmt pilot. My phoibos was the only one that didn't affect the compass but I have only wore it a few times so it hasn't been magnetized yet. Lol but the invicta I'm pretty sure was magantized because it caused the compass to spin when passed over watch it just never affected it's abitly to keep time "yet"
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 6 жыл бұрын
Ah I see, seems like it affected some parts of the case for sure but didn't affect the critical parts of the movement as yet.
@trackpackgt877
@trackpackgt877 6 жыл бұрын
Perth WAtch ok I see so maybe the case was magantized but not the movement on the invicta. Well that shows u that better watches can stand up to magnets better because even though invicta isn't a high end watch I wore it the most but the cheapo tevises became magantized pretty fast with less wrist time. Hey thank you for getting into this interesting conversation with me you are a good guy I love your videos. I just started getting into watches 5 months ago and it started with a 20 dollar mechanical tevise I needed for work and snowballed from there I will never own a quarts watch just don't like batt powerd ones. I'm working my way up to better brands my phoibos is my most expensive now but I'm thinking about getting a stuhrling automatic depthmaster next after I do some research on them. And one day I just may pull the trigger on a Rolex sub or Yacht-Master I'm on the fence about spending 6-7?k on a watch. Thanks again buddy keep the vids coming
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 6 жыл бұрын
No worries man, the community and discussions are one of the best facets of KZfaq for sure! A word of caution about Stuhrling... I believe they are a blacklisted brand on WUS forums for certain questionable practices, at least at some time. If you're looking to spend around $400 I can wholly recommend Seiko, Citizen, Steinhart or Glycine. Cheers, Ivan.

Now that your watches are regulated, how do you make sure they’re in spec for water resistance?
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 5 жыл бұрын
Good question... those with good water ratings may not be on spec for the full depth anymore but I figure that as long as I'm careful in replacing the gasket back to position, they would be plenty good enough for what I want to use them for, ie. swimming but not diving.

Nah, it doesn’t
@Gamexoozi
@Gamexoozi 3 жыл бұрын
@@PerthWAtch yes it does. Check out in detail about it. Phones, TVs, speakers and many electronics magnetize the watch slowly. Especially for automatic watches. What you did here was adjusting the speed of the seconds hand according to the magnetization of the watch. So, I think your watch should be heavily magnetized but u countered it by increasing the speed of the seconds hand.
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 3 жыл бұрын
If you are convinced you have the answer, why did you ask the question?? What I mean is that what I did here with the phone would NOT magnetise the watch. Sure if you keep the watch next to the phone for hours or days, yes it will magnetise it. I don't do that.
