Long screws in soft wood are not enough alone - best to get a larger, continuous strike plate design that is designed to secure bot the door handle lock and the deadbolt also.

Nice video Thanks for sharing I been using deck screws for years and it make it a lot harder for people to get in I also put 3/4 inch pvc pipe in widows every little bit helps.

Note: the 2x4 sometimes is Not where the door latch is! Using 3 inch screws makes it pretty useless..In this case be sure to screw it in on a angle. And use a deadlock! dead bolts makes the door frame and door weaker, think about it you have a big hole in the middle of the door and a big hole in the door frame..This is the places where they crack when someone would kick in a door....

Did you predrill the holes? I tried putting in 3" screws into a door jamb, but the wood split.

my question: Is the frame of the door made with 2x4 and are the screws going through 4 inches of wood ?

The screws would go into the door jamb first, and then into the frame 2x4

Add a pipe were the latch goes into the walls stud a 4" or so.

Predrill and those 3" screws won't go in sideways

i like'em at a weird angle, if anything its stronger, im a lazy ass and i only predrill A. when doing work for a customer AND B. its absolutely necessecarrrrryyeeee

They say no matter how strong a door is there's no no door strong enough for a criminal that wants in bad enough. Because a frame of a doors kind of weak anyway that's the nature of a frame a door frame. Basically there's a wedge there in a door frame to allow the door to lock. But there's different things like different screws and different door jambs or whatever to make it stronger.

The only thing this guarantees is that when criminals break through the door, they will make lots of noise in the process. Than can be an advantage/good thing. Gives you time to get ready to defend yourself.

Out swing door with security hinges is your best bet ,harder to kick in.

Hi . I mentioned them in the video. Even if you don’t do 3 inches on the screws, maybe 2 1/2‘s or 2 inches on the hinges too. Take out a screw on your door hinge or strike, there’s a good chance there only 3/4 long. Cheers!

@@skills4life100 Yes, I'm sorry, you did mention them and advised that those longer screws should be used but what I'm also concerned about is the screws that go into the door on the hinge side. You only recommended the wall side for long screws. For instance, I'm not sure if longer screws would matter if the door material doesn't go along the entire length of the longer screw. Does it? How would I know? And, if the door is solid, shouldn't that also be covered by the longer screws since, if they weren't wouldn't that be a weak spot where the door can be kicked in?

Good point, on the material of the door, in regards to the screw length. Steel, fiber glass, wood. Anyhow, because it’s an in swinging door, it would be very difficult to kick in, at around the area of the hinges, because they are sealed. The longer screws definitely do the job, which in turn creates more noise and unwanted attention.

Good tips , but thieves will just break a window to get in , it's much easier . Leave lights on , and barking dogs are a great prevention , cats , not so much ! lol Do not leave valuables in your master bedroom, it's the first place they go .

Aswell as doing this have vibration sensors connected to your burglar alarm. The burglar hits the door once and the alarm sounds and they havnt event entered the property.

I want to keep CLAIMED maintenance keepers OUT while we are at work.. and I've changed our deadbolt BECAUSE they continually come in and take what they want.. they have pryed our door open and marks all over even the new deadbolt

Those 3 inch screws on the striker plate did no good. Everything he showed was a was of time and money.

The reason many lock brands and hinges come with small screws is compliancy Not sure about usa but here in Australia its against the law to reinforce your door with extended screws, armour etc Emergency services need to be able to kick your door in , in emergencies If theres a fire , and they cant access due to the home owner reinforcing their doors and someone dies then the home owner is liable

Fair point that mate. I don’t believe there’s any liability here in the U.S. I’m a former Firefighter, and those 3 inch screws are no match for any Halligan tool, or flat head axe. Thanks for your feedback

@@skills4life100 I agree. I dont see the logic in it either But i did look into it here in aust Building inspector warned me about the laws in this regard
