That is excellent. You have a puller for each, and a way to extract the barrel if it gets stuck in the valve. I am not a plumber, but if the barrel ever gets stuck, I will be rigging up some type of tool to grab onto the plastic barrel to pull it out.. Thank You for watching my video and commnenting.

Just replaced two 1225 cartridges with the puller tool. It costs $16 at HD as someone else commented. It worked great. You just have to make sure you use it correctly. The tool is worth the $16. Makes the job a 15 minute job.

The HD puller is merely a handle and is not a puller that uses mechanical adavntage. If the cartridge rubber folds over internally as they sometimes do the HD puller (handle) is useless for this job. What this fellow is showing how to do is build an actual puller that extracts with mechanical adavantage.

@@kenny-Poo the puller I've had for years seems to be the same kind he demos. And it's not just a handle. That is why I say you have to use it correctly. There are several YT videos that show you the right way to use it. It does pull the cartridge out mechanically when you turn the nut on the puller with a channel lock wrench. You keep turning it with the wrench long enough where you can feel the cartridge unstick. Only at that point do you grab the handle, twist it back and forth and slowly pull out the cartridge. I've done it four times and it's worked every time. Very simple. No need to make a special tool. The other trick with this tool is to unscrew the screw at the top of the handle as much as possible without unscrewing completely. Again, there are YT videos that show you how best to use this tool.

The Moen pulller, and the Danco puller I bought are not full length pullers and basically are just a T handle requiring the operator to pull the cartridge out by tugging on it. That doesn't cut it if something is really stuck in there like happened to me with my 1222 that was in a valve body with sharp edges that cut into the rubber pads on the cartridge lodging them in firmly. I had to fabricate something like he did here. Just my 2c.

Thanks for watching and commenting. If you purchase an inexpensive drill, tap set, and grinder, you can make your own. And you can re-use these tools around the house. Grinder to cut old pad locks that you may have lost the key. Drill to secure doors, and cabinets, etc.. And the satisfaction of D.I.Y. (do-it-yourself)

This is keeping it simple! I like this. But what size screw would work best? Length and thread size please!

@@danarello2563 Moen original screw is #10-24 x 5/8 pan head Phillips drive stainless-304. So just a shorter #10-24 x 3/8 of any type, with a #10 fender washer, would make a suitable pry cap.
