This video will show you how to remove the Boot/Trunk Lock Solenoid on your Audi A4, S4 or RS4 (B6 and B7) 2001-2008.
This is performed on a saloon (sedan), but the process for removing the solenoid is very similar for both Cabriolet and Avant models also.

I had the same problem on my B7 sedan/saloon. It turns out that over time due to the opening and closing of the trunk cable (brown cable) on my B7 was worn to the point where the cable was cut. I just took another cable lying around and connected the 2 cut parts and this fixed my problem. Hope this helps. This B7 label on this video should be removed as it is not applicable for this model.

@@bstergio in the end, it was an easy fix, i bought a new latch, fitted and reconnected and it work no problem! the worm drive inside is rubbish plastic and the teeth on the drive cog mash so it cant return to a locked position. its was £18 done in 20 mins!

This is a great video. What were the symptoms that lead to the replacement of this part? I have a boot that sometimes will not open via the key fob button and the cabin button. but its very intermittent.
@TotalTechnik
@TotalTechnik 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, much appreciated! Yes, that can be a symptom for this. But hard to test if intermittent TBH. You could strip out the boot panel and watch it working by locking and unlocking in theory, but if intermittent you would not spot it :-( Please be sure to support us: please subscribe to our KZfaq channel, give our video's the thumbs up, and help spread the word. The new solenoid actuator also does not open the boot and makes no sound - appears to be completely dead. I did notice that the fuse blew during the replacement (almost positive I had checked that a few months ago before undertaking the solenoid replacement). However, after replacing the fuse, the new solenoid still would not activate the lock or make any noise. I’m beginning to suspect this is a wiring issue and not a solenoid problem. Unfortunately, I only have a 110, 220, 440 voltage sensor. Will that work to check if the solenoid is getting a signal?

Hey there! No, you need to invest in a multimeter which will be able to read 12V. They are VERY cheap (under £10-15 on eBay) and an essential piece of kit for tracking down wiring issues. @@TotalTechnik Thanks! Got the Multimeter. Do I just stick the red and black probes anywhere within the plastic wiring connection assembly (after disconnecting it from the actuator)? Don't want to short anything out given my lack of knowledge. On a related note, when I pull the interior trunk release or press the key fob trunk release I do hear a very faint click coming from somewhere under the driver's seat....
@TotalTechnik
@TotalTechnik 5 жыл бұрын
@@kurtrossetti You need to set the multimeter so it is in a range that can read 12V. Then touch the tips on to the black and red wires in the connector at the end where you can access bare metal. Or if unplugging you can push them into the end of the plug. Then activate the boot mechanism (you'll need someone to do this for you as your hands will be full!) and watch the multimeter to check it receives a 12V signal. If it looks like the 12V signal is getting through without issue, then you know that the fault is further down the chain, so likely the actuator.

Hi guys, I removed and replaced the boot latch solenoid on a 2003 A4 cabriolet - simply will not work! Is there something electronic I need to do to wake it up or a locked / unlocked setting to start it off? Really frustrated having gone through the whole fiddly procedure.

That's odd. Ok, firstly is the fault with the new unit identical to the fault on the one you removed? Does it try to move at all, or make any noise, or completely dead? --- To help support us (for both you and others reading this) there are a few things you can do: 1) Please ensure you subscribe to our KZfaq channel. 2) Please give our video's the Thumbs Up on KZfaq. 3) Please help spread the word, the more people who know about us the better! Completely dead - which makes me think it has no power but I have no testing equipment. And now (first sunny day of the year) the roof has decide to play up ! Released from the top bar of the windscreen, half folded then just stopped. I opened it manually with the key and now it doesn't respond to the switch and the warning light is flashing on the dash. The roof has always worked fine so can't help bu think the two things are somehow related... Any help or advice very much appreciated.

Identical fault. Doesn't make any sound. No movement.
@TotalTechnik
@TotalTechnik 6 жыл бұрын
Ah ok, if the roof is playing up then the boot will not unlock except for with the key. This is to stop the roof and boot possibly being open at the same time. So if there is a roof issue that would explain the boot lock solenoid not actioning. Or of course vice versa, if there is a boot issue it would stop the roof opening. Have you got VAG COM?

Any idea how to get into an A6 boot that won't open with key or fob. No access to boot from rear seat without cutting hole. Head is wrecked

Hey there! I assume this must be a saloon (sedan) rather than Avant? And with non folding rear seat option? If so, this could be interesting :-( Is there a key hole next to the boot/trunk handle? Ok, so you have removed seats so you can get into the boot now? If so, great! You should be able to remove the boot lining from the inside, following our guide: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nJaElquBkp20nmw.html Once that is out of the way you should be able to see the locking mechanism, like in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rtF0gMeDsbHKlZ8.html And you should be able to manaually push that and that should open the boot for you :-) If so, mine's a Jack Daniel's!
