Great job! I’ve got to tackle this same problem today and it’s much better than throwing it out. Very resourceful using the ice scraper as a putty knife 😂 gotta do whatcha gotta do! To anyone trying out any wood/drywall filling I highly recommend getting a putty knife (like she mentioned earlier) to apply the filler because it can save you time on sanding. They are only a couple dollars and can be reused for years if you clean them when you’re done

About 2 weeks ago I picked up a 9-drawer particle board dresser with a veneer top and thought it was the bees knees. Same situation, after I scrubbed it down I realized that the top had water damage and several spots where it was slightly raised. I was afraid of sanding into particle board to level it out so I decided to try putting a fresh veneer top on via contact cement. It probably would have been beautiful if I had someone help me but I did it solo and it ended up warping. As you can probably imagine.. it ended up being a sticky gluey mess. 😑 Back to YT this morning for a solution and decided to give this method a go. Before I could even start I had to sand off the contact cement and, now that I'm 2 weeks into this, I figured I'd sand the heck out of it all the way back down to the frame as an insurance policy. I'm gonna guess there was a 4mm veneer on top, or the dresser just knew I was totally over it. 😅I managed to level everything without exploding particles and without using a box cutter. So, long story short, this certainly helped me get things moving. Next time around I will definitely be slicing into it. TY! 💕

I think the Original coating on your furniture is really melamine which is a much thinner material than a laminate. I’ve cut laminate before and it sure takes a lot more strength than what you demonstrated to get through it. All the same it’s a great tutorial and I’m excited to find it and be able to use it.

Thanks for the video! Quick 2 questions! Is it alright to screw and drill into this filler? and is it essentially the same process with an epoxy filler? I plan on turning a free old dresser into a pedestal style arcade cabinet. Im pretty much only worried about it holding the base of the joysticks.
@FlipItFurniture
@FlipItFurniture 3 жыл бұрын
I have drilled into wood filler but It sounds like If you could use an epoxy filler for your project that would be even better something like bondo or kwikwood. Yes, it’s the same process but you might be right using something stronger.
