WORKING ON THE FRONT DRIVERS EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ON 1996 ERA COROLLA: First remove door crank if manual, Arm rest and the inside release that slides laterally to come loose. Do not try to pull it out, but rather slide it sideways to release it from the door before trying to remove panel. Remove the screw then slide either foreword about 1/4 inch. The arm rest is attached to the panel from other side so only remove the two larger screws and DO NOT try to pull the ARM REST from the panel as it will tear out the tow small screws and may need to put an oversize washer to reattach. The exterior door handle supplied from vendor had the wrong clip for holding the door release so check as I had to reuse the old one. The lock twists slightly clockwise on drivers door to come out so you can remove the lock and not remove that control rod to the lock. Panel is light paper board so most retainers slip out so they need to be removed from door and reinserted before trying to push the panel back on.

When removing the door panel from the front door in my 2002 Corolla a nut fell out. An identical nut came out of the passenger side front door as well. I can't figure out where they came from. Does anybody know?
