Back in the 80s in the Air Force I sat next to a chemist who had the task of evaluating d-limonene, aka, orange oil, for various uses in the maintenance shops. He had a can of 3M spray in the office and we had a stapler that had been around since the 60s covered in every owner's personal masking tape name label. We sprayed the stapler and let it sit a few minutes. All the tape wiped right up along with any glue residue. It was pretty amazing. We also learned it removed the oils from our fingers, so if you try using it, wear gloves.

Good video. Try this on your next spot and upload it. 1. Spray WdD40 (not the silicone type) 2. Place plastic over it 3. Come back in 30 min with a paper towel and wipe it all off with NO EFFORT. 4. I'm lazy...that's how I know.

This works excellently! Much better than without the plastic. Just used kitchen foil plastic. I used a creditcard to "scrape". Although it just comes off with 0 effort. And then clean it with a cloth. Thanks! Saved me hours of work and headaches

My experiment with >10 year old stuck tape using yours and another recommendation, read on for the results and my conclusion: I just saw your comment after spraying WD 40 on one of the too many strips where carpet was secured to the hardwood flooring with duct tape and another unknown tape… will report back in 30 minutes. 8:55 am right now. 9:40 am It took some of the tape off, but definitely the rest was still stuck. I spoke with my sweetheart in Germany who is a carpenter and he laughed when I told him about the WD 40 saying they use it for screws, not stuck tape. 😜 He recommended paint thinner, and on one strip I tried while waiting for the WD 40 to kick in, the glue all came within half a minute scraping with a credit card, but could have used a cloth! Lets try it on that more stubborn spot now and see how it goes… 10:30am With the help of my metal paint scraper that has curves and a point and esp the short flat side as well as the long flat top, and a little finessing with an old credit card, I was able to remove all three long glue strips very well. Definitely for me it is a pure winner using the PAINT THINNER over vegetable oils and WD 40! Thank you so much for your tip that helped me on this journey!

😜 I tried this out and used a cut up plastic bag to cover the WD 40 for over half an hour… it worked a little, but mine was a ten to twenty year sticky tape issue and very stubborn. My carpenter sweetheart from Germany laughed at the WD 40 idea 😂 and told me to try PAINT THINNER, and it worked like a charm, some of the glue coming off in seconds and other more challenging spots with some elbow grease and a paint scraper to get through the layers. The floor looks great and with a little linseed oil to nourish the floor boards, they look and feel fabulous! ✨🤎✨

First off ~ Thank you GEO for your hins ~ I have a pair of speakers that I marked their positions on my wooden floor with duct tape for easy set up when I moved them around ~ Well ~ After 8 years I got rid of those speaker and tried to pull up the duct tape with not much luck ~ The floor was a mess and needless to say my wife wasn't very happy ~ By chance I found your page and tried your method but after seeing your failure with the Olive oil I just used the DW-40 and after 30 minutes it worked just like peeling a banana ~ Thanks again ~

It's a good idea to wipe/scrape in the direction of the wood grain. Also a credit card or gift card works really good as scraper without scratching!

Here is a better way: Use a Wagner (cheap) heat gun and scrape off excess with METAL scraper. Use Mineral spirits and steel wool (0000) and scrub in circles to get it off, occasionally using scraper to get off stubborn spots. Wipe clean. Scraper should be 1.5" wide, and no sharp edges. I usually grind my corners on a concrete pavement so the metal corners are a bit rounded. Careful! Don't scratch piece. Plastic does nothing. Steel wool. Leave it in a jar with the mineral sprits on it, for future use on sticky store labels. Do not use Goo Gone or Acetone as they will damage the piece.
