You can also use pine sol in your laundry. I used it this way after a flood two years ago , and have had no problems at all with it, plus, none of the color faded, like it would with bleach.

I had a house fire in the past and Pinesol took out the smoke smell. I’ve never used it for mildew.

Yes, Pine Sol is great for washing clothes. It says so on the label. But who reads labels?!

Direct sunlight is amazingly effective. After a few hours turn the clothing to ‘do’ both sides. Take them inside well before shadows form on them because dew will as well, thus defeating the purpose. Bob Vila suggests white vinegar with baking soda. I tried soaking in water with vinegar and a little baking soda first then washing. I found this a distant second to a few hours of sunlight. The clothes actually smelt sweet after!

I had some of my clothes in the basement while I was on travel. My stupid landlord had a leak and never even told me about it. I came back and my clothes were soaked for who knows how long. It smells so bad. I had to throw a lot away because of big mold stains. I'm washing them in loads twice each time with Arm and Hammer detergent with Oxiclean and Odor Blasters. If that doesn't work I will do the vinegar treatment. This is so stressful.

The detergent got the smell out but some of the stains stayed. I ended up throwing the stained clothes away and kept the ones that weren't stained and just need the odor eliminated.

I ran an empty cycle at 95c to clean the machine then washed all my clothes at 60c except silk and wool. And reran an empty cycle at 95c to eliminate the spores definitely. I have years of mildew build up.

I had a box of jeans and shorts in my closet. My washer connection leaked while I was asleep. I had forgotten about the box and it appears to be the only thing that mildewed. I can’t use bleach on blue jeans. Does anyone have any suggestions for removing this mildew from an entire load of jeans?

The worst material for mildew isn't cotton, it's polypropylene fabric. I have a motorcycle rain suit and it's a real stinker.. Don't think I want to use bleach on this.

Of course you can, vinegar won't fade or discolor your laundry. I have been using vinegar the last eight years with no problems. Peace.

I just realised my favourite cinnamonroll bottle's strap had grown mold because i kept it inside the half wet bottle, now i soaked it in vinager and baking soda scrubbed it and kept it in hot water, ill make sure to keep it in sunlight in the morning any suggestions to get the stain off? 😭😭

Visited my parents house over the holidays, noticed some spots in their bathroom/tub had mold and mildew on the ceiling and on some of the tiles, they claim it’s been that way for a couple of years now, my parents are old and can’t clean it themselves or they would’ve been had it cleaned, so my question is will years long mold and mildew be removed?

Yes, some of the basic spray bathroom cleaners will kill/remove it. If there's a fan in the bathroom, they should be using it, when they're done their shower/bath, else it'll be back.

You can't use bleach on colored clothes.

Please help! I've just gone to tidy up my wardrobe and found that my treasured vintage silk dress has a big patch of black mould all up the side. I have tried warm water and clothes soap but it didn't help at all. I'm worried if I machine wash it it will ruin it. What do I do???

Washing mold and mildew in the machine? How about spores left over in the machine? I hear tea tree oil is good for it. I'd handwash. Set the bucket aside for that purpose.
