But what about a metal post?
@jkiker79183 жыл бұрын
@@johnavila2561 That's my problem too... removing a aluminum post. I'm going to drill holes into it and place a bolt across the diameter of the tube. One end of the bolt will be long enough to go be placed onto the Jack. If that doesn't work then a chain will be attached to the bolt ends for the lever method.

I drilled a whole put a bolt in and had it stick out 2'' and used an old car bumper jack no readjusting it has a 4' line of travel . still it's good to see people using their brain and people will thank you because they would never think of doing that, People think they have to pay an expert but they don't and you just showed why good job.

Very clever but also - what a good job someone did when that post was put it, neat compact hole, cement to the surface (formed to a slope would have been nice as well) and a good depth, post clearly had plenty of service left.

Really wanted this to work... Tried this with my car's scissor jack, but unfortunately my post wouldn't budge. Glad I went slowly during the jacking process because I noticed my scissor jack was starting to deform. At that point I ended up backing off entirely to now take a different route -- maybe a bottle jack. So please be aware of this because it could damage or ruin your car's scissor jack. The difference in my situation may be that it appears that the post concrete has adhered to the limestone bed that underrides my lawn by about a foot. In other words, my post concrete may be harder to pull out than most that are entirely sunk in dirt.

A lot of time, for posts sunk in concrete, the surrounding damp oil has rotted the post at the base above the concrete. If the stub is rotten all the way down in the concrete its easy to pull out or hack out with a long crow bar that'd got its end sharpened to form a chisel. If the wood is firm, get a couple of M12 200mm coach bolts with washers on and screw them into the post stub in to form a V. You can then tie rope to the bolt heads and pull the stub out with a jack. Rest the jack on the concrete so you're pulling the concrete and post stub apart. I've replaced seven posts, installing the new posts in the existing concrete. The job was quite easy. You can coat the posts bases with engine oil and wrap them in bin liner up to about 8 inches above the soil level for rot protection.

There is a way better way to to get the post out...use a tire and wrap a rope or strap around the tire once so the strap is at the ground at the post so when you spin the tire it will pull the strap attached to the post at the ground with the force upwards and tie the other side of the strap to a car or truck or whatever and it will pop up quicker than the few min it took to set it up..works great and has worked the best for me

Like the idea and it works! Used too much concrete in the first place. I have seen they use some form of Foam in USA and it seems to work well straight out of a bag.
@paulk53116 жыл бұрын
yeah foam is more expensive and does not have the strength of concrete so if you are setting posts for a fence that will get pushed by wind the foam is not good. i have seen pics of fences like that set in foam and the whole fence is leaning badly due to the foam giving under side load pressure from the wind.
@1habicher6 жыл бұрын
Spot on, good to know. I think I like concrete more but use not too much of it.

Use a 2x4. Nail a piece onto the post. Lever it out. Use a nice long piece. If it is really stubborn, you might have to use a 3/4" pipe. That has to be a killer to screw that jack a couple of feet.
@dudeman69abc1235 жыл бұрын
Just cut a notch in the post and use a lever. As a contractor it would take to long that way increasing labour costs on home owners. But i will say that way works as well. Not a bad idea
