Be Your Own Handyman and save some Money!! Video tutorial shows how to remove tile and or Cement board or both from wood subfloor. As stated in video, you can remove tile first, or just use this trick and remove it all together. I chose to remove the tile first because the way they put the thinset on, I was able to see a lot of the screws. Usually thinset is 100% coverage and you won't be able to see the screw heads. Enjoy.

@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel 11 ай бұрын
HI, Not sure I understand exactly what you mean... Are you saying you pulled up laminate wood and then attached cement backer then tile? Depends how thick the black padding is... if it's paper thin I wouldn't worry about it, but if there's any thickness to it, it could cause a little sponginess in the floor which is not good for tile..

I'm working on my third room in this house today, pulling this stuff. It has been glued down plus screws. It has taken hours of running the hammer drill as a jack hammer. What do you do if the fiber board is mortered to the subfloor?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel

It'll be a little more difficult. I would probably try a hammer and pound each board. Of course with the tile already removed. It should break up the thinset underneath...

I've not tried it and am a bit afraid I'll be starting something I'll regret. Does the thinset not stick well to OSB?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel

Not real well... If they used a modified thinset it'll be a little tougher, but the hammer should break it up. You don't have to go crazy with it... Just hit it a bunch of times with a moderate force and it should crack it up under the cement board.@@rickwest2818

That method doesn’t work so well when backer board is installed correctly. You’re supposed to install your backer over the subfloor using thinset with screws or nails every 6”-8”. Using that method ensures the floor will never develop hollow spots or cracks in the tile or grout.
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
This floor had so many screws in it it's not funny... 😂 I think this would still work even if they had used thinset. The thinset doesn't have a huge grip on plywood. It's more for a vertical filler so that it doesn't squash down in the low spots.. You're right though, that is the correct method...

I usually don't wear flip-flops to work! I usually wear them any other time in the summer though so without even thinking about it, I wore them out of the house and went to work... LOL... Obviously I wasnt going to turn around and go get some decent shoes, so I just rolled with it.... :-)

Yea that was probably done in the 90s... depending on which one you mean, I think there were 2 layers or more of flooring. The house was built in the mid 80s...

I actually tried a roofing shovel.... It was a absolute joke! Not strong enough to remove that stuff at all... That floor was really thick with multiple layers... and screwed down to the max....
