Did you watch all the video as I only used a filling blade (scraper) on the first section. I had someone with me that had never done any rendering before so I was just trying to see if he would have been better off using that instead of a trowel. The scraper as you put it is too slow so yes a trowel is the best thing to use and filling blades are more so for areas that can't be accessed by the trowel.

It's very rare that this type of system is used internally in the UK. These new systems seem to have come from Germany. And have become very popular for external redered finish.
@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo 3 жыл бұрын
They were made because they are more versatile, easy to render different shapes (architectural designed places) that can be made from blue board compared to traditional cement render over brick work. Also for two storey builds it can be cheaper to build compared to using bricks but you still have that solid render look. I have used this product a few times now for internal walls, usually just as a feature wall. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo 11 жыл бұрын
They don't recommend applying this product on fibro cement sheets, it should be blue board but that doesn't mean you can't do it, it just means they won't guarantee the product. If you are going to try it then I would suggest some extra nails in the sheeting so the extra weight of the render doesn't pull the sheets off the wall. As for using bondcrete, they do have their own sealer or primer that you can use.

I can't reply to an individual person on this video. However,@Mark Turner, if you want to go over previously painted, wash thoroughly with Sodium Hypochlorite, Trisodium Phosphate, and soap jetted through a pressure washer, and rinse. Apply a primer depending on what paint is existing. RockCote Acrybond would be great. Go over with something like Dulux AcraTex Sponge Fine or RockCote Poly White. Paint with two coats of Dulux 955 or Weathershield, or RC Armour or Ecostyle. Dulux and RockCote are the two best renders I have used, both bagged and acrylic. Be careful using acrylic outside if you are inexperienced, in summer you have maximum of maybe 10minutes some days to trowel it on and float it off. Start on small walls and build up. Acrylic render, pretty much as a rule, you can't patch it. It you have a defect, generally you will have to re-skimcoat the whole wall. Bagged render patches beautifully. Be careful painting acrylic render too. Depending on the finish, it may have a texture and top coat similar to maybe an AeroBar, or pumice stone. Picture framing can happen really quickly and easily if you are not careful. Painting cementitious render is easy and picture framing is rare, even on havy textures like bagging and lambs wool mitt textures.

If you are dealing with a previously painted surface you will need to make sure it is sound, cleaned thoroughly and then apply a primer. Always use the primer that is specified by the manufacture.

Great video! Quick question: if I want the final wall to have a textured look with trowel stroke marks, do I just apply the acrylic render as you have and then go back before it dries and add the more obvious trowel strokes? Or just do it while I am doing the render coat? Also, what needs to happen after this point to make the wall waterproof ie. to use in a shower stall? Cheers!

Lol.. I agree sand and cement render is better but the average person would find it almost impossible to do. Acrylic renders are easier to use, its easier to get a level finish so that's why its better then sand and cement. I have had this discussion with a builder, we both agree it would be better to build a house with brick and cement render then building with blue board and acrylic render. As for being slow, as I said in video it was Rays first time ever so we were going slower then normal.

@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo 3 жыл бұрын
The second coat can vary a bit from 2 to 10 mm, on this wall it would have been about 3 to 4 mm. Final coat is controlled by the type of render you use so it would be also about 3 to 4mm thick approximately. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

I've been reading all the comments & in particular the ones ridiculing the method used. Dulux Acritex & other brands of acrylic renders are for the novice DIY'er who wants to tackle getting rid of the 'gorgeous '70's brick feature wall' & can't afford to get a tradesman in so some of you have missed the point. As my darling wife said quite unwittingly to a dear friend from the Black Foot reservation when discussing various bureaucracies..'there's just too many effing chiefs & not enough indians' lol..ooops!

Partly true, it is easier to use than cement render but was designed for multi story work and architecturally designed buildings where light weight construction was required.
