Everything you need to repack your silencer: rmatvmc.link/repack-motorcycl...
If you've noticed excess oil coming out of your exhaust pipe or your bike sounds louder than it has in the past, there is a good chance your silencer needs repacking. In this video, Rocky Mountain ATV/MC mechanic Dustin shows the full process on how to repack a 2-stroke exhaust, including disassembly, removing the old packing, and installing new silencer packing.

Everything was ok in this video except wrapping and packing it tightly . Insulation works best when it is not compressed ! I know l was a Union insulator for years ! Wrap it around the stinger without compressing it too much. The exhaust needs to easily flow through the holes in the stinger into the insulation. If the holes are covered by tightly compressed insulation, flow is very minimal and your bike will be very loud ! Guaranteed

@Raymond Siewert you might of been a union insulator but you're not a mechanic. also whats a stinger? the piece he wraps is called a baffle, and its wrapped tightly because just about every instruction manual or video even on FMF's own youtube channel tells you to wrap it tightly. if you didn't notice the original factory packing he removed was wrapped tightly too.

Just finished repacking an FMF TurbineCore 2, exactly like in the video. I used the OFFICIAL “ FMF Everlast Packing”. I used 1” painters masking tape. Cutting the OFFICIAL FMF packing to the correct length SUCKS. Do yourself a huge favor and use the generic packing, like in the video. I’ve repacked probably 125+ SILENCERS over my nearly 60 years. NONE were as tricky as the FMF Turbine Core 2 !!!!! Getting the vented inner pipe INSIDE the female receiver, near the rear of the pipe took well over an hour of wiggling and cursing. Finally it went in. My ex was NEVER that tight !!! Next time GENERIC packing and perhaps calm SOOTHING music …
@nepicness
@nepicness 5 жыл бұрын
So you guys aren’t touching the turbincore part in the front? I’ve seen some that say drill through the rivets, repack, re-rivet and others that say to just ignore that area.
@krispewkrem3
@krispewkrem3 5 ай бұрын
It depends. I repacked the long section and left alone the turbine core. My rear section is leaking because that packing was so gummed up and oily. I just don’t want to drill and rivet. Idk who designs an exhaust like that. Blows my mind FMF is the standard when the quality isn’t all that impressive

Is Locktite a good idea on the bolts? I ask because the carbon and high temperature tends to seize up the bolts anyways. Add locktite to the mix and they could be crazy hard to get out in the future. I was thinking of applying grease or anti-seize to keep them from seizing up. Now I'm just not sure what to do, lol.

There should be on the bike already a rubber exhaust joint. We've found out that by using a little high temp silicone helps seal up the connection from the head pipe and silencer. @rmatvmc
@rmatvmc 6 жыл бұрын
You could try that. I don't think you'd be out much building that. Could even simply use zip ties vs clamps? One thing that i've noticed with the rubber OEM Exhaust Joint is that it has a tailored fit. What i mean by that is, one side is a little bigger in diameter and the other, smaller. Creating a snug fit. Let us know how it works, hope this helps!

FMF recommends NOT disassembling the spark arrestor end at all. To do that requires drilling out the rivets and removing an Allen bolt. Get a rivet gun to reinstall the rivets. Don’t be a hero with screws. They could poke through the screen. The spark arrest packing should last years and years, but get a bit soggy with premix oil. C’est la vie.

Yes, the tape is away from core and most of the heat. A lot of the OEM factories use masking tape for this purpose.

I’ve always used tape , my mate suggested lock wire I couldn’t bring myself to use wire , I’d worry it would find its way into the cylinder, probably impossible but I’d still worry.

Hey, I think you are packing it way too tightly. The sound cannot go through the holes in the round metal insert and get absorbed into the fiberglass.

Did you not take off the flammable tape before you slipped it in
@paulsorace3547
@paulsorace3547 9 ай бұрын
The flammable tape will release all grip when heated. It will not burn inside the fiberglass against the aluminum. In a year or so, it will come out like nasty oily paper. The reason for using the tape is because it releases and lets the packing expand and work better to muffle the sound. Back in the day, when men were men and sheep were frightened, we used safety wire on the part being inserted first and maybe a few inches away from that to hold and guide it. Safety wire doesn’t release and will actually rattle sometimes causing head scratching. Tape MUCH better

@rmatvmc

You didn’t pack the last section. Turbine core has more packing in the rear in which you need to drill out the rivets.
