We had some time to take care of RV maintenance tasks last summer which included repacking the RV trailer wheel bearings. This is an easy DIY that can save you a few hundred dollars. Repacking the wheel bearings should be done every 12 months or 12,000 miles. Thanks so much for watching! -Matt & Laurie

Just want to say a big thanks for this very informative video. I’ve been looking for someone in this rv living like ourselves doing maintenance. Now I can have a go myself. We have had ours now coming up 3 years and have had lots of issues and only 1 year warrantee. We are in New Zealand. Also your new keyless entry I’m ordering one of them to. Thanks guys safe travels Dai & Ange 🤙

Thank you for the kind feedback, Dai & Ange! Little issues always seem to pop up that need fixing so learning to do it yourself really helps. We hope you enjoy the keyless entry as well. Safe travels! 😊

You should set your bearings with a torque wrench, set at 50 lbs, to just by hand with channel locks. This is right in Dexter Axles instructions, that came with our trailers.

Good video. At the end, it's probably good to spin the hub to make sure it's freely spinning and do a final pull test in hub by hand. Otherwise great information! Did you ever get your replacement hub saver pair? Thanks again!

Great video! Need to do our 22MLS, very similar to your rig. Did you ever get your hub saver washers figured out? Did they send the wrong ones or did you misorder?

Hi, Mike! Matt ordered the correct ones but didn't know at the time that there are 2 different sizes. We recommend contacting Hub Saver before you order with any questions. They're WONDERFUL and so helpful!

you mentioned to rotate tires at same time - do you just move front to back on same side?

Great question, Mike! When I rotate my truck and RV tires I always move the front tires straight back and cross the back tires to the opposite sides as I move them forward. Hope that helps! 😊

Quick question for you. It sounded like your wheel was making a slight grinding noise even after you repacked the bearing. I greased mine through the EZ-Lube system for the first time and I noticed it made that same grinding sound. Is that a normal sound even if greased properly?

I don't mean to butt in but since you did not get a reply .... the slight grinding noise is normal. You want a little bit. Its your brake shoes on the drum. Having had 2 other trailers with E-Z Lube I would caution you to be very careful using them. Go slow with a hand type grease pump and rotate the wheel as you pump slowly. If you are not careful you will blow out the rear seal and fill the brake drum & shoes with grease (i did it); loosing your ability to brake. You will use a whole cartridge per hub as you are also filling the spindle area as well. I would still pull the wheel and inspect your bearings for wear & tear & dirt, now & then. I check with my hand the heat of the hub at every stop. If they are getting hot; you have a problem that needs addressing before failure. I say this having been stuck on the side of the road miles from anywhere 40+ years ago and learned the hard way.

@@herb7877 Hey, thanks so much @herb7877. I was kind of bummed I didn't get a response. Your feedback is really helpful. Is it okay to use a full size (14 oz) grease gun or should I only use the mini 3 oz kind? I don't want to blow out the seal. With the EZ Lube System, do you just grease them once a year as recommended? How often do you fully repack the bearings?

@@jimbalcom2880 it will take most to all of a 14oz tube per wheel. the cavity in the exterior of the spindle fills full to push out for the smaller outer bearing. Keep pumping until all the old dirty grease is out and you have clean exiting. Some do not like doing it this way because you are filling the spindle cavity. It may cause more heat due to pressure and expansion. I fully admit I am very careful about bearings after my past experience and watch them like a hawk. Every time we stop, even 2-3x a day I watch them and do a quick walk around and touch. I hand pack new ones and then do it again the start of the 2nd season. I do crawl under a couple of times a year to inspect the rear seal as well. Having spent 14-16 hours in the middle of no where years ago is an experience I don’t want again. The trailer before my current one I used the easy lube system a majority of time and had no issues. My new trailer, they will be hand packed in the next week. Then ??? It is more work and mess hand packing but it also lets you see the bearing and check for wear & tear. I’m not sure what brand is in the new trailer as well. If they are cheap China garbage they’ll come out . My older trailer had good ones ( this was not the one from 40 years ago. That one was long gone years ago and several have proceeded it). If you’re somewhat mechanical and willing to get greasy I’d recommend hand packing. At least the first time and every few years if all is good. Hope all this helps.

Looks like you also needed to replace the turbo encabulator and top off the flux capacitor.
