How To: Repair a Baluster

When I broke a custom wood baluster and I knew I would never find an exact replacement I figured that repairing it was the best plan. I'll show you how to repair a broken baluster in just a few minutes and for less than $5 in materials.

Great idea on the join. One could use a large headless nail/pin I suppose. But you did not show how to fit it back into the staircase!!!!

Great repair technique, just what I needed! Only problem I had was drilling the holes. Drill bit traveled a little and so the holes where not exactly centered. Maybe a spade style drill bit would have been easier to control?

How do you put it back in? The one I need to repair or replace goes into the banister and into the floor. There’s a hole in the floor and the banister that it’s set into at least an inch deep on each end. Do I have to remove the whole banister somehow?

They are typically just help in place with one or two finish nails so removal is very easy.

I came to ask the same thing as the one I’m dealing with is set about an inch deep into the floor and into the banister. The only way I see doing it is by removing the whole banister, somehow.
