I found an old discarded extension cord that was fairly heavily damaged. Today I am going to add some new male and female plugs on this cord to salvage it. This is a fairly straight forward process that anybody can do with a couple of simple hand tools.

@Ben, thanks for the memories as I relived a rite of passage from my youth! Dad, a Marine Warrant Officer, functioned for our Scout Troop as the Merit Badge Counsellor for "Electricity!" I truly enjoyed it, when he taught me the correct way to install plugs and receptacles, as well as splicing wire. (no wire nuts for him, always solder and good tape)😂👍❗️Thanks for the vid, as well as the "time-trip."

If OSHA is around, you fix it by going to get a new one, and leave all the tags in place 😁

I got a chop saw with at least one badly repaired power cord section where I'll be applying everything I learned here on it to make sure it's safe to use once again.

Just one thing I noticed shouldn't the ground be like 2-3cm longer then the rest of the leads cause that was I was thought in school, the reason is that the ground lead is the last to get pulled out if the cable get pulled out of what even it's in, and now ppl are going to say but the connector is losing first yes ofc it is but with years of use and ppl pulling the cable instead of the connector the cable will come lose.

Isn't that the way. All I need is a 6 foot cord and all I can find is a 50 footer. But when I pull out the 50 foot cord it doesn't quite reach...

You not use "Aderendhülsen"?

I would get some proper size ferrules on the wires before inserting them in the connections. That will establish a much better and safer connection.

Well that one is in my truck now, not the shop. I also mainly bought that one for the crimper functionality.

We have very similar looking connectors in hardware stores over here in Germany and man...just thinking of it makes me want to kick a puppy. Shell made of some crappy brittle plastic which seems to be glassfibre reinforced, but it still just crumbles on ya when it drops from more than 1m height. Or heaven forbid when you happen to step on it, which happened to me once. When I realized that it wasn't just an incredibly crunchy potato chip my body was shaking so much over the thought of what could have been that my day was over. Those fucking bastards are a good way to delete yourself and others if you don't handle them like your goddamn wedding ring. I hope yours are a bit higher quality. You wanna leave some slack on the ground wire, just so it gets pulled last if the wire happens to get pulled out of the connector.

Just buy a better connector, I don't believe there's only one type available in germany.

My memory seems to tell me that in Germany you have 220/240v service, whereas in the U.S. we have 120v for common outlets. I cannot imagine what 220v would feel like !

@@txtoolcrib lol not weather proof and not what osha would consider safe so no those would end up cut off and the owner of the chord would would get either a warning or a fine depending on the swinging dick that finds it... and in current days they will find the GC and that is the reason most large GC companies have a safety program you sign when awarded the contract and this crap is in there the 4 story building I'm working in now has about 10 cords in the job trailer he went and unplugged while in use and cut that plastic crap off so it could not be used and he wouldn't get a fine...

Sounds like the GC needs to grow a set of balls. Some people hear OSHA and drop down on their knees to do whatever they command. They are perfectly legal, all circuits have to be GFCI, they don’t have to be waterproof. Anyone that told you that doesn’t know their head from their ass. And if you think OSHA is bad, try working under MSHA.

@@txtoolcrib once again no they are not ... you clearly are a office jockey and do not understand job site conditions... but you can think whatever you want ... I've been a tradesman for over 25 years and yes we use to be allowed to have those on site but have not been allowed for about 10 years...

I’ve been a millwright for almost 30 years, owned my own millwright business for 18. So no, not an office jockey. They are perfectly legal. Now maybe your site is full of kids fresh out of college trying to make a name for themselves, I’ve dealt with plenty of them. Your super needs to grow a set and put them in their place, because they are perfectly legal. So are welding cables that have been damaged if they are shrink wrapped correctly when they have been nicked. So are 240 V 10 gauge cords using similar connectors, albeit heavier duty. I don’t just work on multi million dollar projects, I contract them. I’m not trying to be combative, but I know what I’m talking about friend.
