I am gonna give this a go on my Nissan Maxima if I can get the motor in advance. Just a suggestion, you may want to check the KZfaq vids regarding "plastic welding" with a soldering iron. I have used that technique more times than I can count over the years instead of expensive and sloppy epoxies. Thanks for the ideas and demo!

Really very intelligent ideas... Sir, my car i20 front left door sometimes lock and unlock or halfway lock or halfway unlock when operated either by driver side inner central door lock handle or using key from outside the driver side. However, all 3 other doors are ok in both cases. Also, to be noted is that when either operated from the right left door inner lock handle or using key from its outside, this particular door operates normal lock and unlock system and all 3 others ok too. Please really help me some suggestions. Thanks.

This was very helpful. I successfully replaced an older door lock motor but my new one was sealed like this. I recommend using a soldering iron to melt the plastic to avoid small plastic chips getting in the gears etc.

Great video, this even works on my Australian model 2005 camry downunder upside down wrong side drivers door car:), i have done 2 driver side doors as they had failed however all doors lock and unlock now but when locking you hear 4 doors lock then there is a feedback signal then the horn beeps 2 times just like when a door is ajar, but in this instance the doors still lock. Im thinking the other 2 motors are not strong enough to complete lock sequence and feeding back that a doors has not completed the lock cycle please feel free to comment.

Here's a tip. For trying to open or get into a space between 2 plastic panels use plastic tools that are designed for this very purpose. That way you won't have any nasty dents, chips, scratches after you're done

These can be purchased for less than $40 now. Just replaced mine the other day and it works fine. We'll see if it holds up but for now, it's working fine.

I recommend not using a screwdriver to pop a door panel off, as it can damage plastic door panel parts. If you use a soft plastic door panel removal tool ($7 for a set of them), it can save you some headaches.

I just replaced the actuator. Easy. I opened the AISIN brand and you do not have to cut anything or glue anything to pull the actuator out. There are just 3 bolts and play with the casing. If the gear comes out do not worry as they are dummy proof. Now I am going to radio shack to get a new motor.

looking to replace the door lock actuator motor on a 2017 Corolla. Any suggestions?

Any idea how you would get the door open to remove the door panel if the actuator won't let the door unlock. Basically the actuator locks and unlocks both remotely and manually, but the jaws wont release to allow the door to open. My choices seem to be either cut into the B-Pillar and cut the striker bolts off or somehow destroy the door panel and bust the actuator apart. Not sure I like either option. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi. Thanks for the video. Do you know what is wrong with my auto lock system? My car is a 2006 Toyota Camry. In the morning when the weather is cooler, all the lock switches work -- including the buttons from the remote. But in the afternoon, when it gets hot, only the driver window locks work. This includes the manual lock switch itself and the rocker switch that controls locks for all 4 doors. Also, when it's hot, the rocker switch on the front passenger side only controls the front/driver side lock (both unlock and lock). The same is true with the key fob remote, which is able to lock/unlock only the driver lock. All other locks do not work when its hot. They only work when I manually lock/unlock the door from inside. On the driver's side the lock is different. Does it have a switch in it that is prone to failure? The switch that is connected to the handle/barrel lock? When the key in the lock is turned one way, all the doors open, the other then they close?

Is it that easy for a 2011 Hyundai sonata my front doors need one.

Considering the time it takes for the new motor to get there after ordering, probably the best strategy would be to install a new actuator, fix the old one and just keep it around as a replacement part.

You don’t need to cut. Can be easily opened by releasing the locks and one small screw next to where you cut.

Does it matters what size the motor if its fits? I mean the brushes at the end of it? Because i changed mine with another one not the same but it fits..

9 out of 10 times when you get that motor out pop the back cover off, use 180 grit emory cloth or Scotch-Brite pad clean the commutator and brushes, spray it with electrical contact cleaner put it back together and it will last the life of the brushes in the motor, 15 years.

2007-2009 Toyota Camrys have some many problems especially with the door locks. Still love my car though. It is a sleeper too.

Ive been doing this to Toyota, Nissan, and Honda(easier) Door Actuators... On this one , it does not have to be cut. Just take out the screws that holds it together, pry the side where the Motor is, just enough to fish it out. Putting a new one is just easy as dropping it in... I always get this motors from the yard...

Brian, do you also do a video of how to put it back together. I know you can reverse steps, but sometimes it helps to see it happen. If the actuator is bad, will it prevent reprogramming of a fob. My car will do an automatic lock on me at the most in opportune times. The wind blue my door closed my keys were with my purse and it auto locked before I could reopen the door. It that the actuator causing that?

A question for you. I changed one of my actuator with a used one. After changing it, when I unlock, the door unlocks but it's like it is unlocked from the inside but not from the outside as I cannot open it from the outside. But once I opened it from the inside, it then opens from the outside. I got the part replaced and installed this other actuator but it is still doing the exact same thing. Have any idea what the problem might be?

4/5 of my power locks do not work, lol... 2003 RX300 255K miles. Rebuilt trans at 160K, original engine with no major repairs beyond water pump/timing chain (preventative, neither failed).

Before you repaired door when you closed the door did the lock stay closed so that the door bounced off lock? That's what mine is doing & I want to make sure I'm buying the correct piece

That could have been taken apart without cutting it. It's a hassle doing it (sometimes it's necessary), but it can be done. However, if you're going to cut it out, you might as well really plastic weld it closed, by either using a soldering iron, or an actual plastic welder (HF has one for around $20) to melt the plastic. I would also test it on a power supply before closing it up. I had a door actuator go on a 2014 Infiniti. It wasn't the motor that went, it was a cam on a plastic worm wheel that snapped off; made a buzzing noise when activated. I didn't want to pay the $500 that Infiniti wanted for a new one, so I 3d printed another worm wheel. I redesigned the worm wheel so it would be stronger and more durable than the original. The original had a few weak points on it which leads to it failing over the long run.

If I ever meet the Toyota Engineer that said "Hey, I could use my toy dc motor in the actuator" .....

Be carefully when u change this actuator motor, maybe the new motor looks like the original but the secret is inside it, the high quality motors are using coal brushs however the cheap motors only are using a small metalic brush and it will broken so fast

For everyone saying ”just replace the actuator”, I've got a 20 year old truck, where many of the cabin and body component parts available are only cheap chinesium parts. Great for a quick fix, but only a fool would expect them to be a long term fix like OEM. Since OEM, and even many reputable aftermarket companies, no longer make my door actuators, fixing my own actuator is better than buying a part made with the most cost cutting and profit maximizing practices and materials as most Chinese products are made. (Yes, I do understand the big 4 motor companies have fully drank the planned obsolescence cool-aid, and most of their products are made garbage from the get (looking at you, FORD)). And remember, every time you replace your cheap Chinese part, that's more crap going to a landfill, or being incinerated and having those fumes going into the air. I'd rather replace a small motor, than the whole assembly. Hell, id rather replace every single worn component in there just for the sheer joy and pride of knowing ”I keep this f*#$er running”.

All manufacturers use this tiny, old, brush motors, and The collector/comutator gets dirty and Will have a high resistence, impedance/curent fall bicause of The dirt / debris from The brushes. Why not use a solenoid, it s indestructable. Or a brushless motor.... A door has to rezist 2 million opening/closing. But that is not The bad part, The fact that they don t offer them as a replacement part is The burning one
