Pretty sure you sanded into the weave. 36 grit is way too aggressive for composite materials. It digs too deep without evenly removing material.

I love the “make sure you clean the area good before buffing, you don’t want to buff with any debris” yet the entire work area was disgusting and the part still had dust all over it. I take it that was a junk piece for this video. If it wasn’t, it is now.

you need to learn how to use a sander... you dont use them at a angle cuz it creates uneven spots...

Worst guide or "How NOT to repair your carbon!" If you have a simple scratch like on the video just take 600 grit sand paper and carefully sand all the part uniformly. Then do the same with 800 grit and then 1000 but not too much to do not oversand the carbon fiber itself. Then clean and apply high quality UV resistant 2K clear. Done!

You would need to add carbon fiber fabric to fill them up prior to adding the epoxy

Hi, we could suggest for you to try this method first before you replace your hood as you can make your hood look good as new this way.

No need to clear coat it after sanding? And then buff
@vicrezcom

1) First Remove the damaged area by sanding it down. 2) After that clean the surface and apply the resin epoxy of clear coat. (Allow 24-48 hours to cured). 3) Sand down the excess 200 grit, until you reach desirable look and to finish it off using a 1500 Grit with some water (WET SAND) 4) Add Compound + Buff 5) Enjoy

@@vicrezcom You don't add a 2K clear on top of that? From searching (I am noob looking at re-doing my CF lip epoxy) it seems people apply clear coat over epoxy to prevent UV yellowing.

is it okay to use a gloss clear coat of some kind rather than epoxy resin?
@savethecivic96
@savethecivic96 Жыл бұрын
No have to use resin because that’s how carbon fiber parts are made. The hole point of this is to basically replace the resin, sand it down to be even with the rest of the area, and then clear coat it.

Hello I have some carbon fiber eyebrows for headlights the clear is cracking and dull I was going to sand it and re clear but some of the clear has chipped off completely down to the weave. Do I sand all the clear off and re clear or what do I do lol. I don't want to damage the weave by sanding where there's no clear coat

Sand all the clear enough where you get rid of the damage area and re-clear
