For weekend warriors with spraycans: Use uv resistant lacquer and don't ask me how I know. Cheap hardware store lacquers generally not suitable for long term usage on outdoors.

People dont be affraid of sanding ots basically how they make see through plastic its easy this demo is professional as it gets what a perfect way to fix a head light you could not do a better job . Smart as hell must work for NASA or the GOV hehehehehe

All I used was a wet sand block 120 water works . Then I took a dremel with polishing tip and some Hairclipper oil or any oil will work buffed it for a couple minutes till it turned clear then i rubbed in some more oil use alot let dry and it is clear as when it was new . Almost the same thing just alittle less professionalism your way is the best ive seen my technique worked but yours kicked my way out the window

What brands of lacquer do you recommend (provide links if you have any)? And how long does a headlight stay clear after you do this to it? I bought a pre-owned car (2020) with a scuff on the front headlight that I want to fix. Even though the other headlight is fine, should I do something to it so its in the same state as the one I fix?

I am in the same game and have been a professional painter for 15 years and I have to say this guy is solid. His videos and content is sound. I don't have a machine, so i needed to sand it manually. I have a cheapy, not-ideal polish kit (turtle wax polish kit). I used 180, 240, 400, 600, 1200 > clearcoat > wax.

Can't remove the previous clear coat.. Its thick hard and nasty. Streaky clear. Unclear a real mess Comes off a little bit. Put on wd 40. Shines it a little bit 😲 I'm a bit scared of using say. 120 grit and damaging the actual plastic front lens. What's the answer thanks.

It's a 2k lacquer. You can buy 2k lacquer these days in aerosol form

I dont use a metal polish in this video. For polishing use a good compound such as 3m fast gut. Farecla g3 etc

Do you have to remove the headlight completely? From my research, I’d have to take the bumper off of my ‘18 MDX to remove the headlight. I really don’t want to do that. Can I just do these steps by hand & cover the car to keep the clear lacquer from getting on my paint? What name brand is the clear lacquer you’re spraying? I’m located in the US! Thanks

You don't have to remove the headlight to do this kind of repair. Any good 2k clearcoat will do too.

Yes and no. It will probably leave an edge where the uv clear has been sanded through. Depends if that will bother u or not.

Would using an angle grinder be too savage a tool to use with all the various grades of grit on the headlight as the rpm speed of these is much higher ?
