The nut that holds the ball into the seats and springs behind the crystal ball, can be really calcified. They can be really hard to get off.

Yes . So true. in our experience .A pipe wrench,will give you the best leverage. A lubricant or a loosening agent. Or also a heat source like a blower or heat gun on low, in short burst can help soften. Thanks for the comment.

@@StatUpBox actually I use a Fernco Coupling on a piece of pipe I screw down on the clamp till it's nice and tight over the retaining nut, then I give it a turn, usually easily starts turning then. Because you squeezing all sides evenly When You use a pipe wrench you squeezing (pinching) 2 sides making it more difficult to remove.
