Note: Read full description. If your Sunvisor is not staying in place and falling down on your Honda Accord 2008-2012 (mine was 2009) -- drilling a hole through the latch mechanism and tightening with a post screw may solve your problem and save you $150 which a new visor costs.
COVER FABRIC WITH A PIECE OF PAINTERS TAPE BEFORE DRILLING HOLE.
YOU CAN USE A NAIL AND HAMMER TO PUNCH THROUGH HOLE WHEN DRILLING BECOMES DIFFICULT.
TIGHTEN the POST SCREW as TIGHT AS POSSIBLE.
A post screw costs 80 cents. What do you have to lose trying?

Fantastic solution! Just repaired visor on sons 2011 Honda Accord Coupe (2dr) for less than $1.50 (post screw + washer + a little brut effort)! As someone stated earlier, hardest part was drilling hole for post screw. As a professional engineer, who appreciates root cause, I really enjoyed the visor xray and explanation.

Just did this! worked to perfection! went from 2-2.5 inches of sag to less than half an inch. I have no idea how they figured out using screws could fix this but whoever did that should get a job on the Honda design team. A few tips for anyone who might try this: When you're removing the visor, if you're doing the one on the driver's side, take a couple minutes, go under the hood, and remove the fuse for the horn (I don't know about other Accords but on my LX it was the only 20-amp fuse in that fuse box, so it was easy to locate). This allows you to get behind the visor while touching the steering wheel without blowing your eardrums out. The correct size the hole needs to be is 1/4 inch. Make sure you use a bit designed to drill through metal, it will make your life so much easier. I tried this with a standard bit, and while it did penetrate completely with some effort, it didn't entirely drill out everything, which caused issues. I then got a proper metal-cutting bit and it went through like a knife through butter. Definitely use some kind of masking tape (you can't use too much) over the point you're drilling on so you don't mess up the fabric. Start drilling on the side that doesn't have the mirror on it, there's less in the way on that side.

I was making an Amazon order for both visors for my 2009 Accord for $230 and thought to check you tube to see if there was a repair. This repair works very well and saved me $230. Doesn't look as good as new but perfect for a 10 year old vehicle. These visors have been replaced before and Honda should provide a free repair. Will definitely have a bearing on future purchase from Honda.

Also works for 2014 Honda Pilot. One difference when drilling the hole is that instead of 1 inch down, you have to go 1 and 3/8ths inches down. For length 3 and 1/8th inches works fine as shown in the video. Also when drilling the hole use a thinner bit for the pilot hole first taking care not to rip the cloth on the opposite side. Hope this helps someone.

This is awesome - and btw, it is still happening past 2012 models, bc my 2014 Honda Accord EX has the same exact issue. Seems like a design flaw that Honda refuses to address with a recall or official redesign. Probably so they can make more money off of new parts and labor at the dealerships...

Hey, I'm redoing the headliner on my 7th gen accord. I had to use a sawzaw to cut the sun visors open, as they were plastic welded shut. Well, I'm at the point where everything can go back together, but I feel I may be missing some components, or some other issue. On the arm of the sun visor, there is a black metal thing that the arm goes into. That black piece doesn't want to fit nicely in the actual sink visor, so I really can't close it. And also, if it does slightly close, the arm does not move. Is there a place where I could see what parts I need and order them? Everyone is saying to just get 2 new visors, but I put a lot of hard work into the ones I did, so I don't want them to go to waste. Thanks in advance.

@HockeyLAKings119

@@PaulRevere2012 I did, and I actually figured it out! So the arms are Designed in a way to fit each side. You can't mix the sides up. One arm was 4.5", and the other one for the passenger side was 5, 3/16". So that explains why one arm wasn't fitting in the opposite visor lol. But yeah, got them all done, and they look awesome!
