Hey man ...we just had our main line break...watched this video and fixed it. Want to thank you for making this video. Without this knowledge we wouldn't have water. (Cannot afford a plumber at this point in time) So again thank you do much! I am from Texas too but live in Kansas now. Me and my husband are now subscribers to this channel. Again, Thank you

Does this work ... yes. As a certified Water Distribution Operator I will say this is a last resort. There should also be 2 clamps per connection side as stated. I would spend the extra money for a Ford fitting and stiffners aka inserts. Then , I would know I could sleep easy. Also this is a service line , not a main line. Great video on one way to fix a service line though !!

I work in the waterworks industry and compression fittings are definitely better. Just make sure you use the inserts. Also if you use the barb fittings and want to make life easier put a female x female union so you dont need to stress the pipe to get it to fit together.

Edit: ATTENTION EVERYONE! CHECK YOUR DISTRICT SPECS OF WHAT IS REQUIRED BEFORE LISTENING TO THIS GENIUS. IF PVC AND COMPRESSION FITTINGS ARE ALLOWED, USE THEM!!! Never in my life have I been told pvc won’t hold the pressure, for one simple reason, it does hold the pressure. Seems as though you don’t know the different between schedule 40ajd 80, which is probably what your water guy was saying. So ya, just FYI, this was no where close to the “right way” but you say it with such confidence. I’m sure some Idiot will beleive you. What the hell are you talking about dude? Do you have any experience in the trench laying pipe?Compression couplings are temporary? I’m not sure where you’re from or what kind of compression couplings you’ve been using, but there is nothing wrong with them. Of course silver solder, soldering, etc is slightly better, but compression fittings can EASILY LAST JUST JUST AS LONG. PVC pipes and the compression fittings can withstand pressure that would blow your fucking mind. Twice what you’re line is at. When I install pvc lines, I pressure test the line at 1.5-2 times the estimated pressure. Compression fittings work in exactly the same way that a rubber gasket pipe works. So yea, Im not sure who the fuck told you that bullshit. But it’s a hundred percent wrong. Many districts are moving away from pipes like ductile iron, cmlc (concrete lined steel pipe) and switching to pvc. So don’t go on KZfaq and try and help people fix things with such confidence when you have no clue what your talking about.

Yeah I agree. There is nothing wrong with barbing poly back together but McDonald compression fittings work just fine and thats what NJ american water uses for their lines in the street so idk why they would give this guy a hard time because its CT american water and the same parent company and I bet they are not barbing fittings together under the road. Secondly you can heat the poly pipe up but its better from my field experience to just heat up the brass fitting itself and jam it in for the same effect and that way you wont melt the plastic. And third I would just open the water company's meter pit and shut the water off and not even call those assholes if I were this guy. How the fuck do they have discretion on how a home owner repairs his water line? They own to the meter pit and thats it and you better believe id chew their fucking soul out of their body with my teeth if they gave me the bullshit they gave this guy.

BULB271602 Water company will not approve it and will not turn water back on... I had PVC on it first and they said absolutely not. They would not turn water on UNTIL the CPVC pipe was in place. I thought PVC would hold pressure but water company said that over time.. it will not. So to have water turn back on.. I had to do it the right way.. according to the water company... since they know their stuff..

vladtexas I have a seriously difficult time believing the water department wouldn’t let you use pvc. I’ve installed 30” diameter water mains that were pvc. I have never worked in a district that didn’t allow us to use it as a service, generally similar to a copper line. I think you mixed up schedule 40 and schedule 80

Cut a piece of your existing water line and bring it to a plumbing store it must be a plumbing store since they have the materials needed. And ask them to fit it up with the correct size coupler and hose. All hoses are different sizes and different thickness in walls of course the thicker the wall the better it is but yet the more expensive. Just depends on how many times you want to dig up 4 feet of ground and find the leak.

Do not forget... you should NOT use PVC. .. it is NOT meant to withstand the water pressure over time... and technically it is not meant to be buried 4 to 5 feet underground. ONLY USE CPVC... which is ONLY sold at specialty plumbing store... they sell it in rolls of 100 feet.. for about $38. The best is 250 psi of pressure CPVC... but minimum is 160 psi.
