The thing is, this stuff is very sticky and messy. It kind of clogs up a roller because all the bitumen particles build up it's not the easiest stuff to work with. That's why I prefer an old brush.

I agree I would never use felt myself for a room attached to the House but as it was already there I thought it could give it a couple more years of life. I am also surprised that it has not failed yet fingers crossed.

@Nick C Hi Nick, I must agree with you that a felt roof that has lasted 40 years is brilliant. However, if it was laid when you were only 12, firstly they were usually tradesmen then, but are you absolutely positive that it was 'felt'. I ask because I also worked on several flat roves at that time, and if it was on a house or school etc, it was asphalt with glass fibre reinforcing. These were simply laid very hot with no top surface. Felt always had to have a generous layer of white chippings over laid to reflect the suns heat. Has your house got these chippings? Also, in those days it was customary to use tarred, pre-felted 'chipboard, as opposed to OSB today. The problems arose from steam condensation from the inside of the home as well as the variation in temperature and water content of the air outside. I can only speak from my personal experience, and repeat that I would never again use felt.

@Nick C Hi Nick, you've got me beat. Without examining it myself, I can't give a solid answer. 15 minutes ago, I came down from installing a tiled roof, on the hottest day of September, so I am now ready for a cold beer, cheers.
