After some fun, I will show you how to prep your Joe for a new gasket as well as install a new fibre mesh gasket replacement kit using some high heat silicone.

Thanks again, James! I will be replacing my KJ gasket with confidence this afternoon. I even managed to get the same silicone adhesive that you used. I'm hoping to piece back together a chunk of the ceramic base that I stupidly over-tightened and cracked at the end of last season. That silicone should do the trick! Here's hoping!

Ha! I had smoke leaks with BOTH gaskets installed, due to poor assembly. Tried adjusting the bands, per the video link sent to me by Kamado Joe, but the results were unsatisfactory. My only real pet peeve with my Komodo Joe Big Joe III is exactly this! One of my gaskets got loose within 10 cooks. I was so excited for the original thought of their gasket design, and completely let down that it’s still held on with an adhesive, no mechanical fasteners. I’ve been running my Joe for many months now with only a single gasket and it works just fine. I have not cooked pizza with the dojo, but plan to shortly. I don’t know if this will affect that at all. Keep up the good work and thank you.

This is an interesting suggestion to add a gasket to the bottom of the DoJoe. Second time using the DoJoe I pulled up half my bottom gasket taking it off at 500 F (on a 3 month old Classic 2). Would you suggest a black felt gasket as used on earlier Kamado Joe models?

Kamado Joe warranty service is OUTSTANDING. I was disappointed in the quality of the assembly of my Classic 2 (although the quality of the individual parts is great). As a result of the poor way my grill was put together, the gaskets quickly failed. KJ customer service quickly sent me replacement gaskets, which I expected. Then I discovered that the base was cracked. But when I asked them for options to replace or repair it, they send a replacement for that, too! My KJ Classic is back in working order and I can honestly say that it is now better than new!

Good video, James! I’m always looking for KJ Classic 3 hacks! Suggestion, if you will: Compare fire starters. I began using the KJ-style “cardboard” starters as they’re cheap and easy to find. I’ve tried the Royal Oak tumbleweeds, Weber paraffin cubes, and strait MAPP torch, and now the KJ starters. I found the KJ boards to be difficult to light but I don’t know why. I always use a MAPP torch to light my starters. The Weber paraffin cubes always catch right away and seem the best. If you have suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Thanks!

Thanks for another great video. My classic 3 just had its bottom gasket go. KJ was great with warranty and I had a new gasket in less than a week. My question is - it looks like the original mesh gasket was mounted on a felt gasket. The replacement just has an adhesive on one side (no felt) - is this an issue? Or just use the high temp silicon to aid in adhering the new gasket? Thanks again for this great channel!

Warranty replacement is now coming off, and I was about to replace it when I saw this video and now I will definitely try a silicone repair first. i find the DoJoe is what kills the gasket... the ring gets so hot it takes life out of the bottom gasket. i have since added an amazon gasket to the bottom of mine to try and protect the gasket on the joe. the pellet joe has no gasket on the bottom and the DoJoe worked perfect on it

@@SmokingDadBBQ I too had a gasket fail, right after using the DoJoe. I followed your tips for using the DoJoe, so I am running it hot, just a smidge below 700 dome temp. Since you have found the DOJoe to cause gasket failures, are you still as enthusiastic about using it. I think we only used the DoJoe about 4 or 5 times before it took the gasket off. Gasket anxiety is real. I freaked out when I dumped a chimney of charcoal into the Slow N Sear and only after I raked the coals did I notice a few embers were burning on the gasket, but it doesn't seem to have hurt anything several months later than a few burnt spots being visible. I hope I don't have to replace mine anytime zoon, I'm afraid I'd damage the ceramic having to scrape the old one off, especially around the dome.
@SmokingDadBBQ

Hi! Both my mesh gasket are loose... I believe it happened after I did some pizza (400 C). I've bought the JB Weld ExtremeHeat paste.
