How to repair your Halfords or Sealey 3 ton Trolley Jack: Quick Tech Ep3.

This is a quick tech episode showing you how I replaced the leaking O-Ring seal on my Halfords 3 ton Trolley jack, which is similar to the Sealey 3 tonne jack.
I need to repair this jack so I can use it to lift up my Audi A6 2.7T donor car, which I’m using for parts to build my own DIY Supercar.

Enjoyed your slow and detailed delivery, plus your change of camera angles. I felt this was a man I could trust not to cut corners (especially when we, the viewer, could one day be reliant on such a Jack if we forget to use a proper axle stands).

I don't know if it makes any difference but you put that plunger in backwards. At the beginning of you video the plunger opening is facing the front stationary wheels. At the end. The plunger opening is facing the back mobile wheels.

I’d like to add that my Jack requires an o-ring with a 3.5mm cross section area. You used a 4mm, which is most probably why you had such a hard time fitting it, and replacing the plunger. 3.5 CS x 16mm I.D O-ring if you want to do a search

My Sealey 3 ton decided to leak at the same part after 19 years service. Good jacks.

Yes, they are pretty good, once the seal is replaced you'll get another 19 years. ;)

just did mine and glad to see you made the same mistake i did. the plunger you removed to replace the seal is fitted backwards, the open slot points towards the front. on mine occationly when the handle is fully upright the plunger gets stuck and twisted. turned it around 180deg and it fixed the issue. worth checking yours. cheers

Awesome video, this looks exactly like my 30 year old clarke jack which has a similar problem, i ordered some 24mm seals i hope they fit :)

Looks like Sealey 3000CXD. I have small leak from main piston. I found that they sell full seals kit (I'm just not sure which version I have) I wonder if anyone replaced main piston seal(s) if there is anything to be aware of...

did you notice you put the plunger in backwards? you removed it open end to te front, and replaced it open end to the rear.

Lube the o-ring first. Never force fit components that are designed to slide easily.

HI There. I have a sealed and a Halfords 3 ton jack. Just wondering where did you buy the replacement oil rings or kit for the jack. I think that is the most important part in ordering the oil rings or seals. As I am useless at that. Any help would be appreciated. Both my Jack's are fairly new. But precautions is better than cure. I've been trying to find the receipt, but no luck. I did order them on-line. I think the company was based in England. Sorry can't be more help, if the receipt turns up, I'll post a comment.

I have a sealey 1250cx jack v1. No visible leaks, pumps up ok and holds load. If you undo the release valve slighty it drops immediately and fast. Do you have any ideas on whats wrong?

Check the spring and ball bearing. You could have a broken spring, damaged ball bearing or contaminant in the mechanism.

if you had left the oil filler cap in loosely you would of seen the air coming out when you bled the jack.

Typical I have just binned mine because the seals had gone I didn’t think they sold replacement parts for them I have just got a black jack

Yep, I've got a few other jacks with similar issues, I think I'm going to do the same to those as well. One thing I did notice, is the place that sold you the jack, doesn't sell you the seals, so you have to buy another jack.... sneaky.
