Yup, that's the way to do it. Add some element of excitement to your DIY repairs, by performing the tasks on a wobbly 50 year old ladder. I got one just like it in my garage. It gives me the sweats, when I catch myself, nearly falling off of it every time. Best to use it when you've reached official "seniors" status. It's all downhill, once that hip is fractured.

Adjusting the chain is easy. There’s a n adjuster nut on the end of the chain. Turn one way to loosen and the opposite way to tighten it. Tighten it to get the chain just about level with the rail. Hope this helps!

Did this a few years ago, Made the switch with the opener still attached to the ceiling. Don't remember it being that difficult doing it in place.

Nice fixed! I might add an inspection whole in the side to lube and inspect the gears. You can cover the whole w/ a grommet!

Interesting thought H! I’ve repaired this unit twice in 20 years and the gear fails with no warning (usually due to wear and increased transmission pressure as a result). Maybe as a grease port?

nice, i have the same exact model as yours, problem i found also with any dor opener is if you use LED bulbs, make sure you get the NON frequency ones as they do mess up your remote from working, for the longest time i thought i did something wrong when i replaced the regular bulbs to LED that had frequency and the remotes signals were being blocked. thansk for the indepth of how to change these gears.

You needed to turn the assembly so that the slotted holes under the top sprocket face front and back, not the sides. That's where your cover slips on to.

I fixed mine for a dollar. Capacitor on the power board was bad.

@@handydand I did not do a video. My remotes would only open the door, but not close it. Searched the issue and found a few videos showing the capacitor replacement on the circuit board. I also saw a video showing bad solder joints on the terminals where the control wiring plugs on the board. So I ordered the capacitor on Amazon. I had to buy 6 of them for $6. I replaced the cap and reflowed the solder joints on the connector pins. Totally solved my issue. Very easy job. Took about 45 min.
