Absolutely super helpful video! I also skipped evacuating the AC unit. You could definitely pull the air box with enough slack to get to those hard-to-reach screws as long as you unscrew those three 10 mm bolts on the firewall and those two 10 mm bolts on the dryer. One of the 10 mm bolts on the firewall was covered and I didn't see it. So I ended up cutting the stubs on those hard to reach screws. At first, I thought you were crazy thinking that it's doable to reach those screws because I couldn't pull that air box to get enough slack. Then I discovered that hidden 10 mm. Man, what a difference! I could have saved myself the trouble of destroying those stubs. Thank you again for this very thorough video!

Hey man, I really appreciate the video and details. The only reason I attempted this was because of the detail of your documentation. You rock man. My renter is a widow and couldn’t afford this repair. I loaned her my vehicle and here we go. God bless you . I’m at the air handler top removal part. It’s a tough one but you made it more gooder. Thanks man

Good video. You've got your door zip tied in the outside air position, not recirc. That's why you have so much crap in your evaporator. To fix it to recirc, you have to screw the door (or a plate) to the intake on the firewall. Just run some self-tappers through the corners of the door, right into the corners of the intake hole. Dodge cheaped out and didn't build their system to include a cabin air filter.

This was a very good explanation of the procedure. I guess as long as you disconnect the (-) battery, before you unplug all the connections. Then reconnecting all connections back, you won't cause a Malfunction when starting . That was my concern. Also In the video from what I saw. there was no connectors alike ,I hope , so you cannot mix them up. One other thing. I only smell antifreeze in my Dodge when I turn on my defroster, But I haven't seen anything on my carpet yet. I only turn it on to my windshield to clear it up , then turn it off, as a preventive measure. I guess the leaking will begin eventually.

Question: which of the 2 lines is the input and which is the return? There are 2 hoses, one right above the other, behind the throttle body. Also, there are 2 hoses, one coming off the water pump, and another one which seems to go back into the engine block. Which hose goes to which line on the heater core? Top or bottom, in or out?

In that part of the video there are studs coming from the hvac box that have 10mm nuts . There are some plastic clips/nuts that slip over those. The screws holding the pcm. The only other tube is the drain tube for the evap that just feeds through with nothing holding it . Hope this helps and thank you very much for watching.

The heater core should look pretty much just like the one in the video. I like the spectra premium , they seem oem . 2002 was a change up year so it may be they gave you what would be more of a 2001 and older. Hope this helps , thank you for watching.

If you ever have to do this replace the heater core and all 7 actuator doors, with the new aluminum doors, all these parts have a high rate of failure.

First off amazing and well done video! Absolutely saved me hundreds of dollars. Very detailed and thorough. I just finished doing this to my 02 ram and I'd love to test the heat out but... my truck seems to have no signs of life after hooking up everything. The only thing that seems to turn on is the rear brake light above the rear window and the door ajar light on the cluster. Do you or anyone else have any clue what could be the cause? I'd like to mention I also took the chance to replace the cluster since my original on is messed up. Could that be the cause? Thanks in advance!!
@s33therfan
@s33therfan Жыл бұрын
The cluster would be the first thing I changed. After that I would double check all the harness connectors and any and all grounds. Thanks for the feedback.
@niko104299
@niko104299 Жыл бұрын
@@s33therfan I switched out to the old cluster, made sure all harnesses are in place and grounds are good. All that happens is the brake lights stay on until I disconnect the battery. I can turn on the fans, use the locks and windows also able to use my lights. No sign of life when I try starting it though.
@s33therfan
@s33therfan Жыл бұрын
That is very puzzling. It is pretty much like you will need to start from square one. If everything was fine before , it is surely isolated to the dash area , however this is not always true. Strange coincidences can and do happen. I would start with the fuses , if not ruled out. It really seems like a harness issue , maybe check for any bent pins. Make sure the latch mechanisms are fully seating etc. The steering column area , I also focus on . Possibly ignition connection issue. The brake light might be a separate issue , it could be the switch is bad , or the housing that holds it broke . I have had this happen. Hope this can help.

@@s33therfan just came back to update. after tracing back my steps and essentially re doing the job i found it was.... a fuse that blew!! haha i was so sure it wasnt a fuse i never bother to check. just goes to show check every little detail no matter how small or how sure you are. but on the other hand i got some good heat now! thanks again for the super informative video!

My 03 Ram's heater core is bad. I checked with a number of shops in my area. 1st- all of the shops near me are $100-120/ hour now. 2nd- all quoted at 10hrs. or more for the job plus parts and evacuating/recharging the A/C 3rd- 2 of the 5 shops said they had no interest in doing it! I've dreaded doing it myself(and still do!) but this video definitely is very helpful. I figure doing it like he did. Set aside the weekend and walk away from it here and there before I get too pissed off. Good luck!

That sounds about right , its definitely worth doing yourself to cut out all that shop time. If you are handy with tools this is something most people can do themselves. I would rate this moderate but not difficult , just a lot of pieces . Just label take pictures. . For me it actually goes back together faster , the connectors are harder to remove than to snap back together. Best of luck on what you decide and thank you very much for watching.
