How to Replace a BMW E46 Seat Switch and Motor 323Ci 325Ci M6 645Ci 650i

The seat on my father's 2002 BMW M3 Convertible E46 was stuck in the back position and would not move forward. In this vide I trouble shoot the stuck seat and show you step by step on how to problem solve and replace the seat switch and the seat motor. The motor part # is 1-1236-01 or 67667035989. The seat actuator part # is 52108255381or 8255381 . This should be a very similar procedure for an M6 E64 Convertible which includes the 645Ci and 650Ci.

T25 Torx Screwdriver

What tools did you use? Size and type please?

Is possible that motor Is buzzing but works? Or would it be the Gear? The noises are different after moving than other seat

Make sure there is nothing in the track that could blocking the movement. Try holding the button while pushing seat forward or back.

@@OmarsGarage nothing happens, just buzzing and sometime looks like the gear "im not sure" jumped off one denticle

I wish you shown how you took the bolts out of the floor. I have this exact same problem on my sisters 07 328i and i just cant get to the motor. There is this metal bar that sits below it and unfortunately the seat is all the way back and stuck there. Its a real bear to get to. It looked like you bent yours back a little bit and had bolts left attached in the rear , was that the case ?

I fortunately was able to move the seat by pushing on it while I pushed the seat forward backward button. It wasn’t working all the time so it was a pain in the butt. If you can someone get to the motor to remove it, you can manually turn it. Also if it’s a convertible there is another button on the side of the seat.

@@OmarsGarage yeah mechanics around here are swamped and I’m trying to move it myself. I just can’t see underneath and the motor is the one that moves it back n forth. I can see the little pin slide in and out when I hit the switch but that’s as far as it goes

@@OmarsGarage I had to give up and take it to a local shop that was able to fix it. You’d be surprised how many shops can’t fix this problem
