I buy my O-Rings from SmallJoes.com. Figures from 82-84 Style 1 (Actual dimensions: 7/16" ID, 9/16" OD, 1/16" thickness) and figures 85 and on Style 2 (Actual dimensions: 7/16" ID, 5/8" OD, 3/32" thickness) are recommended.

Helped a lot, thanks. FYI for anyone out there, i bought a 500 pack of o rings that came with a few hundred screws and the little tool with a Phillips head and it was under 10 bucks and that includes shipping. Straight from the ol U-S-of Hong Kong!

My mother took all of our childhood toys and put them in the attic and when I got them down for her grand-kids to play with all of the G.I. Joe and He-Man figures had fallen apart. Glad to have found this video so that I can fix the Joes, I assume the He-Man figures are a similar fix...probably gonna need larger o-rings. Thank you

He-Man uses a dumbbell shaped piece of rubber not O-Rings. There are people that sell bundles of the He-Man leg bands on ebay and other places

I appreciate this video! My old 1982 mail-away straight-arm Cobra Commander's o-ring is really starting to go (he's super-wobbly) and I wanted to replace it but I had no idea how to do so. I didn't realize it was so easy! Thanks for the info!

Mannnnn thanks so much I just opened my huge joe collection after about 20 years and they are all separated. I had no idea we could fix these as a kid. I simply used blue tac. Haha

@@Pegwarmers Got done last night. Some of the heads were floppy afterwards, but I figured out you fix that by tightening the screw a bit more. I just didn't want to over tighten at first.

I never did owned any O-Ring GI Joe toy since back then i wasn't familiar with G.I. Joe as i am now and while i still don't own any i often did wonder myself how do these o-ring figures worked anyway and seeing you fix and reassemble an example i felt informed with a neat fact, thanks for the video man 👍

@@Pegwarmers Thanks. I already have a Bridge Layer Toss n Cross and Tollbooth. I got the Cobra Hiss Tank and driver coming, and a Crimson Guard, and a Polar Bear jetski. I'm trying to get a Snow Cat with Frostbite, but it's difficult to tell which prices are better, the condition, and all that.

Thank you so much. I saved all my son's GI Joe action figures and just yesterday introduced all the figures to my 6 yr old grandson. Being old and brittle, some of the bands broke. Great to know how to repair! I will be super-gramma for sure with your help! On another note, do you know if these O rings would work as well on other action figures such as Star Wars?

That's great! 70's and 80's Star Wars guys don't have the joint at the hips so they don't need O-Rings.

Ah ha! Only one of the many SW figures I have has a small screw in the back and O ring. Thanks for the lesson. I'll concentrate on the GI Joes. How to discern the years 82-84 and 85 and up for the figures? Is there a "chart" or some such?

Great video. The figures unfortunately were flawed by design with these bands that eventually deteriorate and snap. As a kid, I tried to use a regular rubber band to fix it. Another reason I was a fan of solid figures without bands, as great as these are.

Well, they didn't expect people to still care all these years later. They borrowed or adapted the design for a Japanese toy line. My dad hooked me up with the right size O-Rings back in the day, but I understand that that wasn't the norm for kids.

@@Pegwarmers Thanks. That's cool you had access to replace the rings, and much credit for being able to reassemble the figure. It looks challenging. A swivel torso can be done today with legs with ball joints thankfully many times for a similar result. .

I guess I understand why they don't make them this way anymore but their articulation was so much better especially when having them fight eachother and throws kicks

There has to be a another way to engineer them to have the same type of movement without the o-ring.

haha, I knew I'd find something like this online! I need to go to the hardware store- I had an old Ripper figure and a Cryotek (Visionaries) die this way and I'm tired of posing them stiffly on their legs, lol.

@@Pegwarmers haha, you did help for sure! It worked like a charm! I just went to the hardware store to pick up a multi-pack. Ripper's was a tad loose but not in any important way, but the Visionaries one works amazingly well (and was even easier to put in, because of the different scale). Now I just regret buying a replacement one (only cost me $5 since that one was incomplete and mine was fully decked out, but still). Thanks a lot for this!

I can’t find anywhere, but I’ve noticed on the legs of figures some leg hooks are facing back while others are facing forward. In your video, they’re facing forward. Was there a right way? I have quite a few figures and don’t know if they were repaired wrong direction or not. Thanks for the video

It just depends which way it was assembled at the factory. I've seen lots of figures both ways.

Just got a box with around 100 vintage Joes. Sadly about half of them have blown out O rings and most of the intact figures are close to losing theirs.

It's very common. That little o-ring has been hanging out under tension in their for 30-40 years.

The dimensions of the o-rings are in the description, but you'll have to convert to metric.

Haha, man..... i sure wish my brother and I knew you could fix them like this because in the backyard of a home in Mountain Brook, Alabama there is a graveyard of GI Joes that were buried during the 90s. We thought there was nothing we could do to save them so we had real funerals for them.
