In this video I will show you how to replace a main sewer line for ONLY $490.

Just a tip to add to this.... BEFORE putting dirt back in trench you should lay a bed of gravel under pipe and then around pipe. This keep the backfill you put in to fill trench from sinking weeks down the road and leaving a trench!

I think he will be fine though since he didn't appear to remove any of the existing dirt from below the pipe. So, the ground is already pretty much settled.

Great job, two suggestions next time you do it maybe in 50 years, put sand underneath the pipe to prevent it from settling, and instead of no hub fittings get PVC couplings. Great job nice video

Good job. You saved yourself few thousands of dollars. Your wife must be proud of you! But, you are obviously a homeowner, not a plumber. Few things: the rubber couplings are nice, but I'd use No Hub shielded couplings instead. Also, the stainless steel bands have to be torqued to 60lbs of pressure. You could not possibly reach 60lbs with that tiny screw driver.( (@9:00 ). You should have use nut driver that is preset to 60lbs of torque. Lastly, @9.15 - that bend is missing 22 1/2 degree PVC fitting. You just flexed your rubber coupling instead to get that angle. That may be a potential problem in the future. But otherwise, thumb up ! PS: that 2" kitchen clean out will do absolutely nothing as it is installed couple of feet from the main pipe. To be effective, it should be installed withing 2' of the house foundation.

might be a better option is hire plumber to mark the line using camera ($250 - they usually say they will deduct it if you do the job with them); ask them in details how they would do it to get to know the coding in the local area then do it yourself. By viewing the camera with them, you have better idea if you need to replace the hole pipe or just a section since their interest will be convincing you to replace the whole thing and you have some info to make a better decision.

Just had my sewer line replaced from the out side of the house to the street by an installer. In your area the soil is very soft and mine is all clay and rock. Could never dig through it by hand. Need a backhoe. Next it has to be inspected by the sewage authority. The project cost me 6,000.00 because of tree roots. If I ever buy another house again I will see where all the utilities in the ground are before I buy.

Thank you, this was a great video. I thought of one thing that could be helpful when filling the trench back in. Perhaps laying sections of plastic sheeting down while you're digging the trench will make it easier to slide or push the dirt back into the trench at the end.

The most important part you omitted is to call Dig Safe to come out and mark all utilities at no cost. In my town, if you don’t call them and damage anything, not only do you get a hefty fine, you pay for the repairs. there is a special part for the connection to the city pipes so the city can shut of the sewar or water in an emergency that is code now so look at the international code now before attempting any repairs cause the pipe to shut it off if you do not pay or if any emergency is now part of the code and wasnt in past so others be aware before attempting this and also follow law call of the locates to be done so you do not hit anything when digging best to be safe if you stick a metal steel thing down to find the pipe then you risk hitting buried electrical wires and could get electrocuted also you are supposed to put a wire copper along your sewar line so the ones doing locates can read it in futures so for safety also

You can't run a Santee on its back only ran vertical that's number one, it'll probably work just fine that's just code anywhere you are.One question why wouldn't you just expose the connection outside of your house where the kitchen sink is and pothole and expose the pipe where your plumbing sewer connection is then that way you wouldn't have to dig up over your existing plumbing terminate it run a whole new main of all new pipe.

First of all being a plumber of 26 Years here in the great state of Arizona i can tell you that some of the work you performed here is somewhat correct but with a few things you should take into consideration. Here in AZ you can use Ferncos on the horizontal in the ground, but we don't do it. You should have used a shielded band in lieu of the fernnies. The connection to the VCP (Vitreous Clay Pipe) is trash and totally illegal! If you don't know how to cut the vcp tee out then you shouldn't be messing with it and yes that would have been the proper way to do it other than installing another donut gasket. You should have two directional clean outs for the main line and if you wanted to, a set of two way clean outs for the kitchen would have been nice too. How and the hell are you going to get back towards the house with the snake in the future. And as far as the 490 dollars goes, well ...... I don't know what your time is worth but you spent 4 days digging and 490 dollars in parts? If you think your time is worth 100 dollars per hour cuz that is what my time is worth and lets say you spent 8 hours a day on this project well....... lets do the math. 8hrs X 4 = 32 x 100 = 3200 + 490 = 3690.00 wouldn't you say and to top it all off it wasn't done right!! Now let me tell you I would have done that sewer replacement for 3200 and done it right in 3 to 6 hours and you could have the four days of your life you wasted trying to prove a bullshit point back. Later Dude

All you crybabies plumbers say the same. I'd rather spend my time doing it then making your greedy azz rich for doing basically nothing. @@danmontemayor9702 it wasn't no 3700 dollars worth of work. Especially if it could be done in in 6 hours. Even if the pipe cost him 1k plus 500 in labor still beats your supposed 3700 with probably would be 4500. So he won.

@@tsmart3029 that’s the problem mr blah blah it won’t work as needed, that’s so cold clean out he put for his kitchen and laundry was a one-way he can only go towards the city through there, too much pitch will leave solids behind in that long run while water travels fast towards the city, so many rubber connections in between they are what we call weak points roots will grow in them ASAP. @@CreativeProcessDIY As it turns out, my line is pretty deep - I dug several feet down and still hadn't hit it, which meant this was going to be a much bigger job that I could tackle alone. I then found some plumbers who came very highly recommended. They will do the entire job - new cleanout + pipe-burst to the street - for LESS than the first company had quoted for JUST the cleanout! Yikes! So, in the end, you still saved me many thousands of dollars, just by encouraging me to give it a try, which ultimately led to finding the right guys to handle it. Thanks - and Merry Christmas!

@@CreativeProcessDIY Nice update! Glad to hear that all your hard work is still holding up. By the way, if you want to remove glare and reflections from monitors, glass or even the surface of water, all you need is an inexpensive polarizing filter. You can buy a traditional filer if you are shooting with a DSLR, or a clip on for shooting with phones. Simply rotating the filter will allow you to eliminate unwanted reflections. Cheers -

@@CreativeProcessDIY you’re kinda a dumbass aren’t ya? No plumbers cares if you do it yourself, but it is entirely illegal. The city is the one that has to inspect the installation not just a licensed plumber. A licensed plumber has to oversee it while it’s done as well, so you actually violated multiple codes and could be subject to 10k+ in fines. I wouldn’t mock a licensed plumber for telling you what you did was illegal, because it was. You better hope your city doesn’t find this video, because I’m sure they’d love to fine you and then force a plumber to come out and redo it.
