Also I have to mention these switches are terrible lol and frankly a little dangerous, the connection the wires have with the contacts are not enough to protect it from overheating and causing a fire. Do yourself a favor and get a box and use regular household switches. It's a little more work but totally worth it!

Thank you for posting this video. We had a major fault in an outlet where we were lucky it didn't burn down our whole 5th Wheel. When I went to get a replacement Outlet I was told that you had to buy a very expensive tool to push the wires down into the slots. After watching your video I realized that there was a different way that work just fine. I bought a brand-new similar Outlet at our local RV place for $20 and will install it tomorrow and I'm sure there's not going to be any problems after watching your video.

I'm having this issue right now. The manufacturer installed 3 wires in it and one popped out. The new receptacle isn't as deep, so I cannot fit all 3 wires in it. It's a nightmare. My fridge won't stay on without the wires in a receptacle. I have no idea what to do. Any advice?

Whenever you run into stuff glued on like that, try using a heat gun to warm it up a little, would help a ton. You could also try a little bit of mineral spirits as long as there isn't any paint around the area or it can easily be covered up like with this face plate. Cause I know not everyone owns a heat gun, a hair dryer would do the same thing, also in place of mineral spirits, you can use nail polish remover!

Yesterday I had it wired like a receptacle would be. I have wired things up before but just have to refresh myself as it's not something I do everyday or might be years apart lol.

Wish me Luck. Got the boxes from. The Mobile Home Store online. I'll either have a working switch, or be using a lantern in my bathroom when I'm done. I manages to wire a back up camera on my pickup ok, but this looks more difficult. As a Widow, I've already replaced faucets, and assorted other repairs. Hoping this will go smoothly.
@SouthernCountryLiving3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Renee. Good luck with your project. Just pay very close attention to how the old one is wired. Maybe even take a picture of it or draw a diagram so that you get the wires back in the correct place. If it is a single switch it will a lot easier. Once again good luck, Calvin

If it is so much more difficult to replace these with the same, which not just replace it a modern shallow clip in blue box with the wing clips, then add a new modern switch to the box? They slide right into the wall just like these right?

@SouthernCountryLiving3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. It could possibly be a wire that has came loose inside the box causing a short. With four switches in one box, that is a lot of wires. You will need to be careful to not cause any problems with the other switches if you open it up. Calvin

@SouthernCountryLiving4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I'm not an electrician and I doubt that I will be able to help. I will give you a couple of tips. First determine what type of switch you have. If it just turns a light or outlet on and off it is a single pole switch. If it works with another switch on another wall to control one light then it is a three way switch. Next google for wiring diagrams for the type of switch that you have. Make sure you turn the electricity off before starting to replace the switches. Use tape and label each wire before removing them. Connect each wire back to the new switch just like it was connected to the old switch. If you ask a friend or a neighbor you will probably find someone that has done it before and will be glad to help you. Good luck with your project. Calvin

I found it a much better solution to put low-voltage wall mount brackets in then a standard switch wrapped with electrical tape. Who needs a box switch catches on fire house is going to burn down anyway
@blacktux14 ай бұрын
Hi, Calvin. So, the rocker switch in my bedroom wouldn't stay in place, and I replaced it. The problem is, the new switch won't stay in place either. Do you know how to fix this?
@SouthernCountryLiving4 ай бұрын
My guess is that the screw hole is stripped out. You might be able to put some silicone caulk in the hole to help keep the screw in.
@blacktux14 ай бұрын
@@SouthernCountryLiving Actually, the problem is not with the screw holes to mount the switch on the wall but rather the switch staying in the off position. If I turn it on, it won't stay on by itself. It's a brand new switch, and I can't figure out what the problem is. Any ideas?
@SouthernCountryLiving4 ай бұрын
I misunderstood your question. If the light comes on when you hold it in the on position but the switch turns off by itself when you release it then it is most likely a bad switch even though it is new.
@blacktux14 ай бұрын
@SouthernCountryLiving The thing is, I tested it before installing it, and it worked fine. However, once it was wired, the switch won't stay in the on position. What could it be?
