In this video i show you how to replace the oil pan gasket on a coyote 5.0 engine. This was in a 2012 Ford f150 but will work on the mustang 5.0 as well. This was done on a 4x4 which is more involved you will have to lower your differential in order to do this. overall it's not to bad of a job but I show you all of the stuff you need to do and the torque specs. If you enjoyed the video please leave a like, comment, share and subscribe. Thanks!

This is a great video. very accurate just did this job. A little hard on a creeper, truck on jack stands. Job takes about 10 hours with out any problems. But beware the bolt to the transaxle on the drivers side in my case the nut which is suppose to be welded in place broke loose. Very hard to get a socket on. You can do it I used a 6 point 1" to get a hold of it. Putting it back on was much harder though as you need a thin wall socket, back the bolt out a bit will give you more room to get it started and pack the 1" nut with a rag so the nut doesn't fall out of the socket. It's real key hole surgery if you have an impact you can use a long extension to get on the bolt and and hold the nut with another extension and ratchet once you get it started your off it will take several tries. Good luck. Cleaning the block no abrasives its a very soft aluminum and use a plastic scraper.

This video was very educational. Thanks for being thorough. I especially love the pictures from the F-150 Workshop Manual lol. I have to replace the exhaust valve on the engine and as part of it, need to remove the oil pan so this video came in very handy. Not sure if you ever will, but I hope you make a video one day on how to do a cylinder head removal as I don't think I have been able to find someone who goes through it in the same detail that you go through in your videos.

Great video best one I've seen on this subject you go into detail and show everything. One question I have is when using the rtv would it be better to put directly onto the bottom of the motor or the gasket? I don't know how much room there is when reinstalling the pan and thought it might get smeared before having the pan in place.
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie Ай бұрын
So always apply to the block. Reason being is when getting it up there you could make a mess. Reason two and more important is if you don’t line it up just right then you won’t be sealing it like it should be. But, overall you will have plenty of room. Especially if yours is 2wd. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Great video and step-by-step instructions!! I have small a oil leak on 2012 FX4 and using UV dye was able to confirm it’s the oil pan gasket. I’ll be working on it this weekend. The only question why the oil filter drain at 3:02 needs to be removed? Thanks!!
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 8 ай бұрын
Thanks, that means a lot! Ya these gaskets seem to be a typical problem but better than a rear main seal. So, technically you don’t have to change the filter you could leave it on there. But, anytime I’m draining the oil I install a new filter. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
@CJ-wq5ve

@@JunkyardJunkie Thanks for the quick reply!! Sorry for the confusion but I wasn’t wondering about the filter but rather why the drain is removed at 3:02. Did it need to be removed to get at a bolt? I know the factory repair manual says to take it out but wasn’t sure if it was a necessity. Thanks again and really appreciate your help!!
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 8 ай бұрын
Ohhhh my bad haha. I see what you’re talking about. Ya, so the manual said to remove it. That’s why I put it in here. But, looking back I don’t think there’s any reason you’d have too honestly. When you do the job let me know if you do it without removing it.

Got it done this morning. Took the oil filter drain off as it was in the way of a few oil pan bolts when coming from the bottom. I used my cousin’s lift so it was easier to simply take those 3 bolts off and get after it. Thanks again for the video and great explanation of each step!!

Hey man I wanted to ask you a couple of questions about S197s since you have a very good understanding of how they work. I just picked up a 2012 Gt and it’s a base model. I wanted to switch out the cluster with a 2013 digital cluster. Is it possible to do that and what would I need in order to get that setup?
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 11 ай бұрын
So, depending on exactly what you want from the 13-14 cluster you can get it. The clusters wiring diagrams show both of them have the same pin out and will be plug and play. But, I have not found a way to get my track apps to work on a 11-12 with the 13-14 cluster. However if you want the boot up logo and the basics like digital speedo then you can swap in the new cluster and ether get a 2013 steering wheel or change out the left hand switches on steering wheel. So, you got two approaches if your going for this. One you get the 13-14 cluster and then you buy the left hand steering wheel controls, part number is: SW-6911 if you do it this way the cluster will plug right up but the steering wheel is missing two wires I believe it’s 3 and 11. So you’ll have to add them in. The easier way would be to get a cluster and steering wheel from 13-14 then it’s pretty much plug and play. Like I said you won’t get track apps that I know of and one more thing to be aware of is there’s a problem where the cruise control light won’t come on when it’s on. It’ll still work just won’t pop up. Also you will need to get the PATS relearned when doing this too. If you have the scan tool to do it it’s easy other wise you can take it to your local mechanic. Anyways, I hope this gets you started in the right direction. Remember to check forums too a lot of intelligent people on there. Thanks for watching!

Was going to tackle this today but i think its too late to start. Have to save it for this weekend. About how long of a job doing it with truck on the ground? And also is the sensor in the pan the sending unit?
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 7 ай бұрын
If your’s is two wheel drive it’s cake. But, if it’s 4x4 it’ll take a couple hours but not too bad. The sensor in the pan is for the oil level I believe. Best of luck. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Hey. Quick question. It's Saturday night and I have most of it done but I can't reach the front couple of volts on the fan. So I'm stuck till tomorrow to try to finish it. I removed everything you said but I still can't get to the second most front bolt on the passenger side of the pan and a couple other upfront including the driver side. How do I get to those bolts? I would really like to have this done tomorrow so I can go to work on Monday. Really having trouble with this

@@JunkyardJunkie Got it done! Thanks for the video. WIthout yours and a couple other vids on youtube, I probably would have just paid someone. It is never super easy working under a car without a lift, but it wasn't too bad. Those front pan bolts are kinda ridiculous. They put that oil filter housing in the worst spot ever. All in all not bad though. My buddy with a 4wd said he paid $500 to have it done on his truck, so not a bad savings for a day of wrenching.
