Never attempted to replace one of before until the sales person said it was $180.00 for installation. Thank you for saving me $180.00. Cheers!

Thank you! This was the perfect video for me just now. I am replacing the motor bearings and pump seals and I was stumped at getting that impeller off. When I saw the “nut” in its center, unlike the main pump that has a left handed screw for its impeller, I almost cried. But we all know “handy persons don’t cry!” So I got on KZfaq and found an even handier person in this video. You did a great job showing how this is done. And those extra tips, like the 1” PVC coupler and the old spark plug socket are life savers. Thank you very much!

Looks easy. Just need the right tools but seems much simpler than I could have imagined. Very details and I love to do things like this because it makes me feel handy. Couldn't do it without your video so thank you.

Awesome! Had to watch it a few times and wasn't quite sure where the lube went on the first fitting, but did the entire job in less than two hours. The new motor was so quiet I didn't even know it was running at first! The only other hard part was getting some of the old nuts off- 15 years of rust made for tough turning. But that had nothing to do with the process. Nice video, thank-you!!

Great video, thanks for posting it. The pool store definitely wants you to spend $250 rather than $30 for a new seal and impeller!

Wow, amazing video, great detail! I had to watch it a few times to really understand the concepts, but it went exactly as the video described, took me about 1 hour total to replace the motor & impeller. I didn't realize how loud the old one was (admittedly it was 12 years old) until I turned on the new one ... so quiet I wasn't sure it was actually running at first but it's working great, THANKS!!!

They should put that expensive pump on a nice pad of some sort so all the dirt and mulch doesn't splash into it from the ground it's setting on. Nice video about replacing motor!

Good video. For others, a couple of things. The 4 bolts holding the bracket to the motor housing would NOT loosen. Ended up using a wrench and hammer to knock each bolt loose, a fraction of a turn at a time. And this was even with soaking with Deep Creep. And the copper fitting used to hold the ground wire was frozen in place on the wire. Had to dremel that off.

Very helpful. Thank you. Question...Regarding the two hot leads you state 'it doesn't matter which goes where'...would not the rotation of the shaft be reversed in one of the combinations?

Great video; but I'm inclined to think y'all enhance the conditions prior to filming so the whole procedure seems to go well without a hitch. I got stuck trying to remove the little plate covering the wires. Those little nut-driven screws appear to be frozen tight. I bathed them with liquid wrench, and I'm going to try again after a lunch break.

@mpickle01 Sounds like your shaft seal is failing. The fix in this video is what you probably need to do. If it's leaking from under the pump end, the seal is likely gone.

Hi. Great video. My motor is making a high pitched sound, but it seems to fully spin and pump and does not seem to overheat. Not sure if I need to replace the motor or not. Could something else be causing this noise? Thanks
@MrDiscoHarvey
@MrDiscoHarvey 12 жыл бұрын
Does the motor spin, or just buzz? The motors have a built in thermal overload that trips them if they overcurrent. If it's bound up, or if the capacitor (used to start the motor) has failed, it will buzz loudly for a few seconds then trip.

in the wires part you say it does not matter where you connect red or black?

If you don't also change out your bracket and impeller you risk damaging your new motor. The new pumps (since 2012) have a better design than the older ones.

My booster pump, same type as this, is running but making a high pitched grinding noise. Do you think this is the fix for me. It's not leaking water as far as I can tell.

But how do you install a new booster pump when there wasn't one installed to begin with?
@frankwiddifield7520

James Holland determine which line is sweep return and cut it. Install a reducer bushing to 3/4 female threads on each end of the line you cut. This will be the feed and return lines for your booster pump hoses. You must also add a breaker to your load center, run wire and conduit to the pump and also install a timer for the pump if your current system can't handle it.

Sajid Rafique check that you are wired properly and that you are getting proper voltage supply. The pumps can be configured to accept 240v and 120v coming from factory they are set to 240v

Can't believe all that work to replace a motor and rebuilding the impeller side with new seals and gaskets. I bet you parts alone would run close to this $200 booster pump when new. Since you need a new motor, plus rebuilding parts for the impellers side, I would just replace the entire booster pump costing me $220 at the most.

Henry Ting very correct sir. I have been a pool repair tech for 5 years and I do not replace motors on booster pumps for that very reason. Actually by the time your done with labor it cost the same or more.
