You may have to replace your old clock from time to time. This is not uncommon, but not everyone feels comfortable doing it yourself. DIY is not always EASY. In this video I will walk you through how to easily remove the old irrigation clock, and replace it with a new one. The new one I install is a Rainbird ESP-TM2. But this steps can be used for pretty much any sprinkler controller.

On average, how much does it cost to have a new timer installed (15 zone, Irritrol Total Control) by a sprinkler company? Is it the same process to replace an irritrol compared to a rainbird?

It should take them less than one hour for sure. It takes the same amount of time to install a rainbird, Irritrol, or hunter timer(really any timer). A good tech could probably do it in half that time. What could add some time is if it is wifi enabled (maybe another 15 minutes) or has a pump relay, master valve, or sensor. These may vary, but still, a good technician should still be able to do it in an hour. Rates vary from $65- $150 per hour (depending on location and company)plus the cost of the timer. Many companies will add some extra money on the materials, so ask ahead of time. If they are charging more than local retailers (or even Amazon) then order it yourself.
