Do you have to turn off the water to remove the valve
@mygiguser6 ай бұрын
not with steam heat, there is just some condensation in there.

that new hand valve seems like the same size I need for my old apartment steam radiator. Do you remember the size or are they a standard/common size? DO you recommend a certain brand?
@mygiguser3 жыл бұрын
the old valve has a number on it that represents the inner diameter of the pipe in inches. no favorite brand here. i just bought what was available.

mygiguser do u have to turn off boiler and take all water from the sistem first?

Is there water coming out when you remove the radiator? BTW, you forgot to put the floor cover back on before installing the new valve 😇
@mygiguser5 жыл бұрын
MegaSafetyFirst there is no water, if it was cold installed correctly, and no i didn’t forget the floor cover, i just didn’t have a new one. They come as two pieces, and you can replace them afterwards.

You did a great job looks good but why go through all the labor of a new valve when you can just repair the washers and handle
@Jnes015 жыл бұрын
Valves are cheap. Replacing it is fun, he gets to use his tools, and he gets to make a better video. Also he might have bought that big aluminum pipe wrench just to do this job, so it was an excuse to buy another tool. He can now use that wrench in the future.

i needed to be able to close the valve. just washer and handle didn’t do the trick
@lucash1980 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. The valve comes right out. Leave the body, replace the packing and put a new washer on. Those things were made to be taken apart and rebuilt for 200 years. You can even smooth out the valve seat

So it sounds like the problem is not that the valve leaked when it was open, which can be repaired with new packing as someone said, but that the valve leaked when it was closed. Sometimes you want to close a radiator valve if you don't want to heat a particular room. Am I right? I would like to close off some radiators in my house, but the old valves don't do that.
