Actually, this was very confusing; when you removed the old float switch, you didn't disengage that switch's wiring which was hard-wired into the pump but installed the new switch's AC plug into a piggyback with the pump's AC plug. So what about the old switch's wiring? Does it remain?

This video should be a what not to do. So much wrong info and work habits!!! First always wear latex gloves if doing pump work, so many germs and any small cut .... infection. Always work on pumps with the power turned off, at the breaker and unplugged. All sump pumps must be on a dedicated branch circuit with A GFCI outlet, that's just code, and common sense. Never put more than one pump on the same branch circuit, duh... If the breaker trips, you've lost BOTH pumps ! Ty - Rap all cords to the PVC discharge line so they cannot interfere with pump operations. I did not see a check valve being used, it is mandatory and self defeating not to use one in the discharge line. The type of float switch used here is generally always adjustable, with an allowance for sliding up or down on the floats attachment rod, some of them allow adjustment by using a threaded rod that the float screws onto. My observations show me that the pump being used is inadequate for the height, depth and width of the pit and the volume of water that is entering it. A larger pump should be used. This also depends heavily on the head, the distance the pump must pump vertically. Also the number of 90° turns and total length of the discharge hose/pipe enter into the equation for size of pump. For homes a 1/3 hp, 115v, 9 - 10 amp submersible pump will do. The next step would be a 1/2hp, 12 - 15 amp, 115v pump. Don't go cheap, you get what you pay for. Zoeller pumps are quality and the exception being made in the USA. I hope this helps someone out. Also, ensure the pit bottom. Is free of debris and the pump sits flush and stable with the bottom.
