I will show you how I replace my broken sump pump that seems to fail every couple years. These sump pumps are easy to fix and could be purchased from big box stores like Walmart / Lowes / Homedepot etc...

We woke up at 6am this morning to a flooded basement. Our sump pump that has been grumbling and threatening to quit has finally given up. It was all pretty overwhelming but than we remembered KZfaq always has a fix it video. Typed "how to fix a flooded sump pump" into the search bar and this fantastic tutorial popped up. Never would have guessed a channel named Taco Stacks would turn out to be our hero. Thank you for educating and giving us the confidence to unhook and change out our flooded sump pump. Happy Fourth of July to you and yours. Sending infinite love and peaceful vibrations from the creeks and woodland of Missouri.

I'm impressed with you sending out a video on Sunday. I live in Texas with no basement. When I was a child (now 76)we lived in Rochester NY. My Dad would have to use a bucket to make sure the basement wouldn't flood. Some times all night. Love your channel.

Hey, remember when we used to only have to replace sump pumps every ten years? It's unfortunate things like this are not being built to last beyond a year. Thank you for posting a very informative and easy to follow video. I like how you take your time to show us and tell us clearly and carefully, without overloading us with too much information. Obviously, everyone's system is a little different but, you did an excellent job covering the basics. It never occurred to me that "upgrading" to a more powerful pump could have other implications as far as new plumbing and or connections, too. Again, thank you very much and keep up the good content!

I have the same pump where I just replaced a failed tether float switch. As the water level is pumped below the top of the pump, I hear this hiss or air sound that gradually gets louder as the water level gets lower, coming from that small black 1/2" dia. circle (grommet looking thing) on top of the pump right next to where the tether clip is screwed in. If I put my finger there, I can tell that's where air is going into or coming out of. Pump is pumping fine. The weep hole is squiring fine. Thanks so much.

Should try and raise it off the bottom of the sump pit by an inch or so. It may allow for better flow into the pump and limit any sediment being sucked through.

Taco Buy A Zoeller or Liberty submersible sump pump. They last a very long time. My Zoeller was still going strong 18 years when I sold my last house. My new house still going 10 years now and I have a backup. Its usually the switch that goes so then I replace that for the next backup. Im in a wet area also so it turns on a lot. They cost more but worth it. Zoeller made in USA :-}

It can have several sources: ground seepage, heavy rain and it looks like the house is in a valley with a natural spring(s) source hence the pond. Here it's from being close to the water. Dig a foot down and the hole fills with water in just a few minutes.

If you have room you could get a second pump there is a fittng for two pumps to use one discharge pipe it has a built in check valve . That way if your first pump fails the second will start and pump out the water . Also get pumps with type of float that goes up on a rod . Just my two cents hope it never happens again ! Now go pick some good stuff !
@SassySue67
@SassySue67 7 ай бұрын
The pump with the rod is easier to adjust the height at which the float will start the pump. I would have drained the basement using a hose on the new pump before actually replacing it, but that’s just me.

Good video. I'm in the process of replacing my sump pump now. You talked about getting one "of the same size". Not sure if what you meant (and perhaps more important) is to try to replace with the identical model. That should make it almost plug (well, unscrew!) and play. Particularly in a sump well, a different unit with a different depth, or location of the discharge, as you said, might require reworking the whole discharge pipe. Since you had it out, it might have been good to wipe down that discharge pipe. You had a lot of fittings on it. It would be good to be able to see if there were any real issues with it, vs just dirt and film. Also for my rubber slip joint, I needed to work a screwdriver between it and the pipt to get it to release. I was surprised yours released once you removed the clamp.
@jwhite4
@jwhite4 3 ай бұрын
Also forgot to add, a door idea would have been to compare the float adjustment (length of cord from the lock screw) of the old pump, and set the new one similarly, before installing it. [Assuming it's a same pump, with the same height.]

My crawl space under my 1939 house collects water when it rains hard. It was over a foot deep when the city's fire hydrant across the street leaked and found a way under my house through an old sewer pipe. The city was at first saying I had a spring under my house, cause my water meter wasn't showing a leak. The sump pump was running almost 24/7. It finally went out and I bought anither one and it lasted about a week before it went out. I finally called the city and said you need to fix the problem, they had about a dozen worker's walking all over when I left for work. By the time I got home they had the road all tore up in front of my house and Saud they found the problem. I was relieved

The screw driver you used looks like a six in one. Meaning the shaft isn't just to hold the driver bits, it's also a 1/4" and 5/16" nut driver. The clamps you tightened use 5/16" hex heads usually. Much easier to use the nut driver than finding the slot in the screw under water.
