In this video, I show you how to replace a head gasket on a Tecumseh HM80 snow king engine. This process applies roughly to most flat head/ L-head small engines.
The torque spec for the head bolts is 200in-lbs/22.5Nm and they are to be tightened in a cross/star pattern.
Thanks for watching!

I haven’t done anything with mud mowers or racing mowers in years due to life/circumstances. Hopefully I can to a mower build, or mini bike build in the future. I have a couple more carburetor and carburetor tuning videos and I have two motorcycles in my garage that are ready for videos as well. So there will be a lot of content w/ a lot of diversity!

Lets get something straight here, a Tecumseh snowking engine is nothing more than a horizontal engine set up for winter. The horizontal summer engines are the same thing, except instead of a heater cover, they have an air filter. They swap season to season, its one of the things that made Tecumseh great. That 8hp Tecumseh you blew up is the same engine as this one your working on. A few years difference, but the same, a medium frame horizontal L head. So when you say Tecunseh made great snow king engines, you can go ahead and expand that statement too Tecumseh made a great horizontal engine period. An HM80 is an HM80 weather its in winter or summer mode. If you or anyone wants to debate that, look up one snowking engines part diagram, its gonna show that at the time an air filter and assembly was also available for that engine. You can also look at the videos of my old Ariens, which switches from a snowblower to a rotary mower. The engine is interchangeable season to season. Tecumseh made good verticals too, they also made descent 2 cycles for a wide variety of products. Tecumseh was also the king on mini bikes back in the day, again were touching on the horizontal line their. A few bad apples does not rule out Tecumseh from everything except winter, that is B.S. Also they made better engines than a lot of the junk being made by the other MFG's now. Briggs had a few bad apples too. So were going from blowing them up to fixing them. Generally in the past it was common knowledge you used a Briggs for Summer and a Tecumseh for winter. But thats too broad, because truthfully Tecumseh's horizontals were a great line of engines. Yes the one you blew up is the same as the one your fixing now. The statement below is accurate.

+Donovan Bryant no this was an 8hp Snow King engine from the early 80s. The engine from a few years ago was a 5hp from the early 70s

LaPavoniMac They are the Same. Tecumseh Snowking engines swap straight over to Summer engines. Particularly the older ones. Hm80 is Hm80 weather dressed up as a snowking or sitting with an air filter on it. They swap, the heater covers come right off, air filters go right on. Look at the older Ariens sno thros as an example. They swap from snowblowers to lawn mowers and other machines. They have that ability, because the Tecumseh it has swaps too. You gotta have an air filter if your cutting grass. So I don't know why you say specifically, only Tecumseh snow king engines were good. You mean too say Tecumseh horizontal engines are good, just like the one you blew to hell, same engine. Tecumseh made a great horizontal engine period. They also made good verticals. Still better than most of the bullshit made now.

Horrible? Maybe whatever you're watching it on has a horrible display. Geez, instead of "thanks for recording the video", which he was simply trying to help others, you complain. Since your comment wasn't productive at all, you could've moved on and NOT said a word. Stick to recording your own "HELPFUL VIDEOS".
