This didn't want to go in at first, and took me about 4 tries, but thanks to your video, I knew how it was supposed to go and I kept trying.

Easy enough. The most difficult thing was to locate the correct star tip to remove the cover piece. Take that Toyota dealership. Saved myself over $100 as I didn't need to bring it in to be repaired. Thank you

Wow- the older model Sienna was much more difficult than this! The whole door panel had to come off and a lot more invasive work had to be done. This is great!

Thank you, thank you! So much easier than I thought it would be. I was able to use a flat head screwdriver, and it gripped the star shaped screw head and got it unscrewed. Also, if anyone is looking for a replacement handle, I got mine from a Toyota dealer for $45 (plus some shipping cost). But make sure to call around to several dealers, as one dealer quoted $30 more than another for the exact same part!

Thank you! The screw had somehow worked loose - no broken parts - so this repair was free! I found that I had to pull on the lever really hard to get the handle behind it.

This was helpful, worked on a 2004 Toyota Sienna. Used thick twine, took a Phillips screwdriver to pop off the front bit of door handle trim after unscrewing it.

Thank you for sharing this. It helped me change the handle on my 2006 Toyota 4Runner. Got the part for $17 online. Took me 30 minutes to do the front driver door and saved $100 for the shop not having to do it. The shoe string trick is key!

Great video, thank you. Be aware that as this vintage of Sienna gets older and older, these replacement parts can be harder to find. I had to order black door handles even though my van is pearl gold. Oh well, a little unsightly but for an old van, I don't care that much. I could not find the door handles in my color except for very high prices. I believe I found my door handles on eBay for around $20 each side. Also, FYI, at least for my 2005 Sienna with manful doors, you will need a torx (aka "star") screwdriver with the T25 head to loosen the forward part of the door handle (shown in video) (someone else wrote T30 but mine needed a T25). Also, if you cannot open the sliding door from the inside because the child lock is engaged, from the inside of the van, you can use a screwdriver to lift the lock lever up. The lock lever can be unlocked (up) or locked (down). You can slide the screw driver into the slot between the door pillar and the sliding door, near the inside door handle.

This video is really helpful I'm replacing my stock oem outer door handles on my 07 Camry for real Chrome door handles from the Tacoma pick up trucks since it shares the same door handles with the 2007-2011 Camry I thought I was supposed to remove my door panels now I know I can just unscrew that one bolt and replace my door handles without having to remove the interior door panels your video is really helpful thank you

Thank you. One note, if the screw will not go in then the plastic framework that holds the screw is probably pushed into the door and needs to be pulled back out. Took us a while to figure that out.

It took a few tries, but the method works. I think the mistake I was making initially was pushing the handle all the way in against the door before sliding the handle back. Also, it took some help with my finger to get the black hook to fully extend.On one of our doors (the power door), the first step was a bit different - there was an easy to slide out black clip covering the access hole, not a plug.

Thanks for the helpful video. Unfortunately the aftermarket replacement handle I ordered for my 2008 Sienna did not have a notch in the front part like the one shown here (you can see it if you freeze the video at 2:09). As such, the front "L"-shaped plastic piece was too thick to go into the opening, and I had to file the plastic down (the door plastic "slot", not on the handle itself) to get the front part of the handle to go in and behind the lever. I would not recommend this, but do recommend that others get a different replacement handle if encountering what I did. If you have the right replacement part the front part should fit in the slot easily, as shown in this video.

Thanks! Helped me a lot and it's simple once you get in there and see how it works. I also want to point out to make sure NOT to allow the child lock to be pushed down while the outside handle is off otherwise the door is locked shut forever and you won't be able to open it to get at the screw.

Great video, I have a question do you know if it is the same on a 2015 4 runner? the handle looks the same and there is the access on the inside door jam with the star screw, however my handle is not broke but needs to be replace for cosmetic reasons but I'm am not seeing how to disengage the handle from the outside. Thanks.

A key missing step is the detail hooking onto the latch. Video shows perfect scenario. To hook the handle onto the latch, the handle needs to be inserted a 1/2" towards the front of car. While flush with the door, slide the handle towards the back of the car to lock it in. I had to use a mallet to do this. I spent a 1/2 hr trying to get handle in before figuring this out.

any advice on what to do if the screw falls into the door?

This was great! I was able to finish it in no time. However, I still cannot open the door. Any thoughts? Unfortunately, I need to open the door to be able to remove the inside panel, to see what else is going on. On other sites, people suggest pushing out on the front and back of the door (from the inside) while simultaneously pulling the handle from the inside. I cannot even get a "click" like the latch is engaging. Is there any "emergency" way to get the latch to release? Any help/suggestions would be most appreciated!

Tried this technique the door handle works to open and shut latch but the handle sticks and doesn’t go all the way back in unless you push it flush. Any ideas?

i'm not really sure u need the string . if u pot the handle through , and then squeeze it from left to right , u should be able to get it in place . I am about to replace mine tomorrow , but from what i experienced on other vehicles , i think it will force itself to the right spot from left to right ( from outside the van ) , and the string wouldn't be needed . please correct me if i'm wrong .
