How to replace the ignition coil on a 4.3 l v-6 chevy engine. The symptoms of a bad ignition coil are will not start, or runs rough. You can use an electrical testing meter to see if the coil is bad, but this part is only $20, so for me it was just as easy to remove and replace the ignition coil. I used a MasterPro Ignition Coil, Part # 2-5198 E46 ... For $50 you can get a "high performance" ACCEL Ignition Coil.. amzn.to/2akHM5B
Tool List:
10mm Socket
Angle Grinder or Dremel
Small sockets and wrenches for the new bolt and nut for mounting bracket.

What I love and miss most about this truck, if you want cheap parts... wow under $10 for a coil at amazon.. amzn.to/1Vr8f6h I'm not sure I would go that cheap, but if you need cheap, here it is! (Commissions earned on Amazon link)

glad you liked the vid. a new coil really helped the power in the truck, I wasn't expecitng to notice it too much, but I was even able to speed up and cut someone off yesterday! I haven't ever been able to do that before in the truck.

You video answered my question about the bracket and the rivets. I wasn't sure about grinding them off, but this helped us install the new coil. On our 1987 Camaro, the coil is attached to a bracket mounted to the engine block. Thanks.

Thanks ZipZapDIY! Used Dremel on aluminum brads. Found screws in my screw collection cause none provided. Liked your clear, loud instructional with no "wind" sound drownding out your voice!

Anybody that doesn't know, this is the older 4.3 Z. 96+ 4.3 W's have the coil to the passenger side of the air intake.

Changed plugs wires distributor, cap rotor and coil. Have the correct firing order 1,6,5,4,3,2 clockwise 4.3 v6 but no start only thing I can think is wires are off. Ran before tune up.

FALCONSS70 Right on!... but sorry, no more vids on the 91 C1500 (275,000 miles)... I sold that truck to my bro in another state, I miss working on it, the parts are so cheap and it is relatively easy to fix most problems.

one can tell the coil is bad.. look at the sides of the old coil at about 1:38 .see the grey areas... that is high voltage leaking from the sides of the coil if one opened the hood in a very dark area.. purple electrical arcs would be visible in those areas.. if the high voltage leaks out thru the sides of the coil.. it cannot build up to enough voltage to cause the spark to form across the spark plug and the engine will misfire. .

So, the ignition coil is the part that is outside the distributor? where the cap is connected to by a plug wire?

are there any videos on how to test if these type coils are bad??? i switched mine out for another and still just cranks no spark... i have changed so many pars even did the timing chain..thax

sorry, I've never tested one because they are so cheap, just replaced when I suspected it to rule it out. did you inspect or repalce your distributor cap and rotor?

yes, even put a ne timing chain which it thought skipping a tooth...but it was just stretched... i bought it used and i first replace cap and rotor and also replaced cam sensor and crank senor... it is an electrical issue.. i picked up two coils from junk yard yesterday... i tried one still just cranks... i also picked up another distributor from junk yard... there is an easy test for coil i need to try... i just bought an auto crank remote so i can perform tests and see whats going on...hopefully ill figure it out soon...

My van turns on but after I shut it off it doesn't want to start anymore till the next day...any ideas why ???

@@javierochoa432 my 2.8 S-10 used to run and then warm up and die , it was the Hall Effect switch I believe .

I just replaced spark plugs and spark plug wires all in my 94 4.3 V6 truck. Before the change it was running great, but eventually the plugs get fouled from burning oil. The problem I'm having now is that my truck wont start! The starter goes, the fuel pumps, but there's no spark. I don't know what else to do?

just me guessing with a little experience.....if all the plugs are going bad from oil fouling, i would look at pcv.. somehow oil is getting in because of an overpressure in the crankcase.. if it was only one or a few of the plugs fouling i would look at bad valve guide, cylinder head gasket or rings. In my Porsche the air oil separator causes the type of problem with all plugs fouling

can you tell me or anyone, should this ink wire to the coil have 12 volts to it when key is in on position, or is it less, i have no volts with key on, thanks,

wisco yes the pink wire needs twelve volts in on position, now if you wanna test why you don't have twelve volts find where that wire comes from first. Once you fix that then you can continue. my 2001 blazer will take about 7 to 8 tries too get it running you think it will be the coil..

my first thought is no. sounds more like throttle body or fuel system related to me. just a guess.

How do you do this on a 2000 S10?

The process should be similar, except it will be a littler more cramped in the engine compartment and the bracket will be shaped a little differently, you may not need to grind it apart, I could be wrong.

+r hinton If you don't have a grinder you can drill them out. I'd use a center punch to help the bit get started.
