Haha oh believe me, Eric. It was above mine too xD I struggled through it, but so happy I did. It took lots of reading through the manual, calling my dad to confirm I was doing it right, and A LOT of patience 🤣 Thanks for watching bro 😁

Okay quick question, on the camshaft retainers (the brackets that hold the cams in place labeled ex. L, ex. R, in. L, and in. R; i have no idea what they are called exactly), how tight were your bolts? A few of mine felt like they broke loose but then aren't continuing to loosen, they are still tight and I am worried about snapping them off for the apparent lack of hardware and parts for this bike. So did you feel like they were really tight before they started loosening or were yours super easy to remove? I've never done any mechanical work on any motorcycle, honda, 4 cylinder, or overhead cam, let alone dual cam, so I am trying to do it right but this is a much more difficult vehicle to find videos and how-tos on, what would you recommend? (Sorry for the long comment lol)

I think I remember mine also being pretty dang tight. I would advise getting the service manual for your bike. The only way to properly work on anything imo 😁 it walks you through disassembly, torq values, assembly, volumes, etc.

Oh sweet alright thank you! I will definitely look into that a bit more, and are the three years of the bike close enough that the books are relatively interchangeable? I figured I'd ask because you likely know a lot more about it than I would

So it's not so much that the chain is wearing out or stretching as it is a case of the tensioner wearing past the point it can maintain chain tension ?
@MotoMango
@MotoMango Жыл бұрын
Exactly! I just replaced the whole thing to be sure since I had to take it out regardless. I'd suggest the same.
@MotoMango
@MotoMango Жыл бұрын
The chain does also stretch over time, but I'd be willing to bet it's your tensioner and not the chain.

Happy to help! There's kind of a few places you gotta check. Cmsnl.com has a lot of OEM parts but it's expensive. I'll check partzilla.com usually first. Calctric also carries a lot of vintage parts. So does 4into1.com. I'll also check amazing and ebay sometimes. You slowly gather a list of places that might carry parts you need haha

You didn't show us the old pieces so we could see how worn they were , woulda been nice to see that and tell us how many miles are on the bike to get to that state of wear ?
@MotoMango
@MotoMango Жыл бұрын
So it's the spring that wears over time. You could just replace the spring to do it cheaper. My bike has 34k miles.
