Every couple years you should put new pads in your swamp cooler

Messed up the cooler. The aspen pads are the best. I live in Arizona where it's hot, hot and wouldn't ever use the fake pads. That's about like using a fake tree at Christmas.

Just got done having this convo. The blue pads claim they cool 40% better but they don't the Aspen pads work way better here in CO as well.

If you have Aspen cooling pads, you should change them at the beginning of each season or sooner, depending on the mineral deposits built up on the pad. Cellulose, or CelDek, pads last longer and require changing every 3 to 5 years.

I appreciate the time taken to make the video, but if I took a shot every time you said Legionnaires disease, I'd die of alcohol poisoning 💀

Dude, you're inexperienced, but i understand you're trying to make it work better. Those OEM Aspen pads are the best pads money can buy, and that is why ALL the cooler manufacturers use them, even though they have a choice, because these work the best. Also, your pads didn't even look that bad in the video. The blue pads are junk. The green stuff looks like "cut to size" air filter media.

You are spot on that he is using bulk filtering material designed for rough filtering of air into HVAC units The fibers of this type of material repels water aka non absorbent. The water drips down this type of material in little paths and does not become saturated. The media designed for swamp / evaporative coolers is designed to have wicking properties so every fiber becomes saturated by the water. That allows all of the surface area to have exposed water molecules and when combined with the air flow passing by all the fibers .... cold air via evaporation.

Measure the panel, not the pad.

So I switched this year from Aspen pads to DuraCool. I live in an arid part of Colorado. It is currently 73 degrees outside and my swamp cooler is registering an output temp of 71 degrees!!! Yep you read correct. ONLY 2 degrees cooler than the outside, dry air--no rain, moisture or humidity present, BTW) Pump and Blower are working great. Water flow is visible down all sides of each panel. After watching another KZfaq video of a man's dissatisfaction with the DuraCool pads, I decided to check something that he mentioned. Sure enough.... the INSIDES of almost all the surfaces of the DuraCool pads are BONE DRY!!! The external surfaces (with the water visibly draining down them) are soaking WET. My Aspen cool SO MUCH BETTER than these. Any idea what could be causing this? I feel so ripped off since the DuraCool were more expensive and were touted to increase cooling efficiency.
