When I got my 2003 WJ about a month ago, there were a lot of "little" things wrong with it. What was funny was that axle vent tube plastic thing was sitting next to one of the hood bumpers... I thought, what it the world is that for??? Hahaha, well this video was worth watching for that one discovery alone. I am getting ready to replace the shocks all the way around, as the Previous Owner really let things go. I have a hunch that when little things start going, people who aren't mechanical just don't want to deal with it, so they sell. This one has a very nice body but several "little" things needed attention. Cracked chrome grill, cracked hose on the vacuum line for the cruise control, neutral safety switch, defective tail lights, passenger side window regulator, passenger ball joints, leaking pinion. The car only has 100k miles, and its a 4.0L. All of that has been fixed and it is a really nice car. Those items arent that expensive to fix and now a joy to drive - oh yeah, I almost forgot - upgraded the stereo to a double din Android and added a back-up camera. Now, my 2003 WJ lives on!

I'll be doing this later this week in my new-to-me 2002 WJ with 409,000!!! miles on it (don't worry, not a daily driver!). Thanks for making, editing, and posting this video--it'll help tremendously.

Martini... I followed this on my buddy's 2004 JGC. Worked perfectly. The front shock on the driver's side was a pain to remove. The brake lines were too tight to get a wrench in there. So I just used a big vise grip on the shaft (it was junk) and then used a impact driver to remove the old nut. Only broke 1 stud on the front lower mount. Not bad for a 140K Midwest miles. The new shocks KYB-GR2 ride controlled-smooth. My buddy was babbling how nice it went. Cheers!

For the front shock you need to install the bottoms bolts first with out cutting the straps holding the shocks

Great video bud, your jeep is mint underneath, good as new. Here in the uk its a battle to keep the dreaded tin worm at bay. Noticed the thicker anti roll bar fitted, (sway bar) thinking of fitting a thicker one to my jeep here in the United kingdom, standard one compared to front is very thin, jeep does move about like a boat on sweeping country lanes. Makes my German shepherd quite ill no matter how easy I take it. Might make a big difference I hope. :-) thanks for your time making these videos.

Great video. BTW, the caption that appears at 2:42 saying "all underhood components will be on the opposite side for right-hand drive" is actually incorrect. The brake booster, master cylinder, PCM, AC accumulator and steering box are all on the opposite side, but that's all - everything else is the same as for LHD, including the positioning of the ABS hydraulic unit - the only RHD-specific brake lines are the two coming off the master cylinder and connecting to the ABS unit.

That vent tube actually screws on and the hose just slips on. You can relocate that to the throttle cable with a zip tie, which also gets it out of the way entirely.

Dude that thing is fucking mint underneath. I wish I didn't live in Pennsylvania. My WJ is getting new rockers and some light rust on the doglegs getting fixed soon. Other than that she's honestly pretty clean.

Hey Martin, love your videos, I have a WJ myself and often consult your videos before wrenching myself, that being said I have a 2 inch spacer lift on my jeep, do you think that would make an impact on the shock replacement I buy?

HELP! My JEEP is a 99 JGC WJ 4,7 V8. I really need help with, what I think is called, The Steering (Wheel) Lock (that is: The steering wheel should lock when you turn the wheel after you have pulled out the ignition key). Only thing is, does not. What could be the problem? A spring broken? more...? Could I take out the whole package myself without any risk at damaging, just to check?

Hey Martin, I replaced my front and rear shocks on my 2002 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 L (Skyjacket Black Max brand) and it rides a lot better but I still get the left front bottoming out sometimes on bumps. I’m assuming I’m going to have to replace the springs. It has the original factory springs on them.

7:33. That wire, sir, is there to make life easier for you. You simply bolt the bottom on, cut the wire, and guide the point through the hole in the top. You gained nothing by cutting it first and then struggling like a he man to push it back together to then guide it through the hole. I try to work smart whenever humanly possible. And I'm keeping my factor-issued boot on, too.

how harsh is the ride with these vs the Bilstein B6 4600 series? i'm using mine as a daily and not lifted... which would you go with?

My bilstein shocks for rear won't fit lower bracket, are these able to be bent out? I've heard people like to over tighten and wondering if that's why these won't fit.

Did you ever get a "knock" when going over bumos after replacing the shocks? I tried new bolts according to jeepforum and the Kevin's off road shick sleeve and neither helped. I also replaced the springs and top and bottom isolators, again no help.

Shocks should come with the hardware. (Nuts and bolts)

Where can I get the exact size bolts and nuts for the Rear end shocks without taking them off? They are rusted in, seized or welded internally. I need replacement bolts so I can swap them out. All the shops are going to charge $450-$850 to take out 2 bolts on each rear side and slap in shocks. I purchased Monroe shocks Manufacturer #SET-TS32338 Has both front and both rear, but only carries the bolts/nuts (hardware) for the front shocks, not the rear ones. The front ones went in fine.
