The $15 plugs cost more than the $7 plugs??? Whaaaa? ;) Seriously, it's more info than I could find anywhere else. Greatly appreciated!

EZ PZ man! Thanks for the demo. Glad I'm not the only home-mechanic who works in flip-flops. I just picked up the plugs at O'Reilly's and will swap them out in the AM when the motor is cool.

Motor was idling rough at 63K miles, changed the plugs and now she purrs like a kitten. Timed the job, hand tools only, less than 15 minutes including getting tools out and clean up.

Thanks for posting. You should always use a torque wrench when replacing your spark plugs, especially in these smaller new cars with smaller engines. The goal is to keep it tight, but also to prevent over tightening and stripping the threads in the head. If they are damaged you will have to get a shop to pull the entire head and take it to have it re threaded and then have the head put back and torqued back down. However way you do it, fix it yourself or take it to a shop, it's always a pain in the ass. Never forget the anti-seize compound when you put your plugs in or you'll have a hell of a time getting them out the next time. I think it's also time for a good engine bay cleaning, but that's just aesthetics. Makes it a bit more pleasant and not as filthy when working in the engine bay and it also looks nice.

Autolite is trash, flip flops make you look lazy, and you really didn't do a good job showing what you were doing. However since I only clicked the video to figure out how to get that cover off, thank you for the video.

Replaced the spark plug closest to the belts on the engine...alternator side...cylinder 1 I believe (had a P0301 code for misfire on cylinder 1)....just wanted to make sure I did the first one right and now car won't start. Any ideas?

Any idea what the gap size should be on the plugs? The ones I am getting have 0.044 preset and I'm not sure what the gap size is supposed to be.
@matthewhensley4762
@matthewhensley4762 7 жыл бұрын
Brandon Puckett .044 should be correct. Most of the new ones that you are going to buy have the gap preset and you don't have to worry about it.

What are the measurements of those 2 sockets?
@rickalders
@rickalders 6 жыл бұрын
The spark plug socket is 5/8" and the socket for the coil pack bolt is either a 10mm or 12mm from the looks of it.

Thanks for this video but what about changing the coil ,,, i got a check engine light and i had advance auto do a diag and it came back " cylinder 1 miss-fire detected" at this point I don't know if it's the spark plugs or the coil. Any advice?
@rickalders
@rickalders 6 жыл бұрын
The coil packs fail quite regularly on these vehicles. Replacing the coil pack is simple, just remove the connector and bolt, remove the old coil pack and replace.

I have a misfire on #4 cylinder and I'm going to replace the ignition coil. Facing the car can you tell me which one is #4? I can't seem to find a diagram online showing me the cylinder order

Jessica Jourdain I believe that's going to be a computer issue. ignition coils are pretty dangerous to replace on these as they have a common issue with breaking off
@TheWilMeister

I just changed my #4 Ignition coil tonight. It was super easy. The only difficult part honestly was the plastic power clip. I definitely broke the clasp while I was trying to get it off. I feel like an idiot, but I couldn't get the thing to loosen, haha. It stays on just fine it seems without it, but maybe don't make the same mistake I did. Otherwise the video shows the process really well, just undo the bolt and then you unclip it and clip in the new one and tighten the bolt.

William Meister Quick question, what did you do to reset the check engine light? Also which one was number 4?
@rickalders
@rickalders 6 жыл бұрын
Typically, the cylinder nearest the crankshaft pulley (which is also the front of the engine) is cylinder #1. On a V-6 or V-8, the odd cylinders are on the driver side.

thank you again for the video looks easy enough! does anyone know the torque specs for tightening the spark plugs. I got ngk laser iridium's from rock auto parts for about 40 shipped to the house it's what was said came with the car usually i like to stick with what came from the manufacturer or better. my 2007 acura rdx and 1996 acura integra Gsr uses them and I have had no issues. I also get the type that is recommended also. usually you can find someone that has used that type of spark in a forum and see how they perform. when I got my 2005 f-150 the gentleman replaced the plugs with autolite and the truck didn't run to well I put in champion s and she's alot smoother but I found that out on a forum.

My Elantra 2011 was vibrating and had error code p0303 misfire on cylinder 3. I replaced my spark plugs with same autolite spark plugs, vibration issue solved. But now with new spark plugs I am getting really rough idle. One knock every 5-10 seconds at stop light. Ignition coil and wires looks in good shape. Any suggestions?

The $15 ones can typically be more expensive than the $7 ones? Whoa, mind blown! FWIW, I think I saw more flip flops than I did spark plugs.
