I plan on doing a totally restoration of my tailgate. So I started with the worn out mechanical bits. Here's how to replace both latches, the handle mechanism, the internal rods, and retaining cables.

Bingo! What an early evening TREAT my brotha! As expected, LOVED this episode. You always have me laughing and sometimes, if it weren't for the purple, this could be a video I'd make as I have several F-150's as you know, and a SLEW of my favorite Milwaukee tools like you! Now you musta been thinking my friend as this would have never occured to me to do this but my black glove cladded friend, you've so inspired me. Ah, the elusive, "venerable" and yes, ALWAYS missing and well-loved, 10mm socket! Now I'm going way out on a limb and with no disrespect ever, I'm sensing a Catholic background based SOLEY on vocabularly. Yep, went to a private Catholic school in my younger days and I just think I can spot a similarly schooled mate from time to time. I see you're all decorated up for the fall and man are you ever so organized with those "Brute" trash cans are neatly stacked up. Wow. I only wish you were close by cause I'd like to pick your brain on one of my 95 short bed F-150's. It's a strange metallic mint color and I bought it for $300! It's in really nice shape, has brand new Michelins on it, 300 straight six, which I love, and automatic transmission. I've owned it for a couple years now and I just have not been able to get it running. Took the bed off, replaced all the fuel tanks (would never do another metal one - plastic is the ONLY way!), new fuel pumps, new computer, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, distributor, gel battery, idle air contol valve, throttle position sensor and on and on and, won't start. I get disgusted and leave it sit for 6 months at a time after each attempt to get it started with no luck. It only has 100K miles and is in beautiful shape. I really want to drive it. I'm now thinking that it has a faulty ground, and I'm leaning toward replacing the manifold air pressure valve on the firewall. Anyway, your wisdom would more than likely pinpoint this elusive problem and get that truck on the road. This is the very problem that had the previous owner give up and sell it to me for $300. But thanks to your videos and endless enthusiasm, I'm probably going to pop the hood and take another go at it soon. Thanks Stevie for your contributions to KZfaq and your brothers and sisters who enjoy you and your efforts. You always put a smile on my face and make my day when that notification alert shows up in my email. Nothing gets my immediate attention more than your videos! Thanks again.

Patrick PhippsPA Thank you Patrick! Just a few of my favorite things: Milwaukee tools and OBS fords! It’s funny how so many people have lost 10mm sockets. Lol It is absolutely mind blowing! No disrespect at all! I was raised Catholic, homeschooled catholic, and got my undergrad and graduate degrees from private catholic colleges. I know what you mean though. It’s those great books that catholic schools make students read that enriches their vocabulary. I still have an itch for good books with old seldom used vocabulary. Yup! I am very organized but not so much that I annoy people. Lol Wow! That really is intriguing! Haha! I’d love too! I’d end up spending days working on your truck trying to figure that one out. The best advice I can offer is check the three essentials: air, fuel, and spark. Trace them right back to the sources and check each one. Visually check that the injectors are spraying and the spark plugs are firing. If you have those two, air usually is sensor related. Unless of course the filter is clogged. Good news is, you have multiple trucks. So you have the unique ability to compare them sides by side and see what’s missing. Also, I agree plastic fuel tanks are the way to go!🤙 Well Patrick, I am happy I am able to inspired and motivate you to fix your trucks! There is nothing more fulfilling or satisfying than fixing something with your own two hands. So I am always happy to help a brother out so he can experience that same joy! As always Patrick, thank you so much for your comments! I really appreciate them! Until next time brother, you have a good!🤙

@@TheMinuteMasters Wow. I don't know what it is but I seem to always be able to tell immediately when a guy has been brought up in the same environment as I have. It's mostly the use of language that immediatley makes me think of a Catholic background. Amazing. I too, have have undergraduate and graduate education (doctorate in forensic psychology). I attended a Catholic grammar school, public high school, community college and undergraduate in California, then private school in Florida for masters/doctorate. I have a younger brother that looks a lot like you and frankly, you and I could pass as real brothers. Crazy world. You know I really enjoy your work and always have a huge appreciation for you as a person when I get to see you and listen to you talk. Perhaps we'll talk some day! In the meantime, love to the MM household my brother.

@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 4 ай бұрын
Thanks man!🤙 So I would start small. Make sure all the fuses relayed tot the AC work, then check all the vacuum lines and make sure they are in good condition. I would read your codes to make sure there’s nothing AC related. You can also buy a bottle of AC refrigerant and charge your system.

Good video. I have a 1984 F 150 that needs a tailgate repair but mine does not have an access panel like yours does.I ordered the plastic clips from Ford and when I get them I'll do the same repair. It's going to be a little more difficult because of not having an access panel but I have a lot of patience when it comes to my truck. Having the plastic clips to hold the rods on does not seem like good engineering by Ford IMHo...Lol Thanks for posting.

Thank you very good video I think that was a very good decision to use the original thicker rods and the only thing that you have left to do is get some tin Lube made by a company in Florida International epoxies and sealers i e s pin Lube part number 45 50 and Lube up those latches and that handle mechanism from the inside and that tailgate won't operate like brand new for many many years to come pin Lube is also good for doing your door latch and Striker hood latch and Striker hood hinges anything it's metal-to-metal very tenacious will not wash off will not attract dirt awesome product check it out thank you

With tailgates, any one of the components can cause an issue. Honestly, I replaced all the interior components of my tailgate and I still had a funky opener handle. Once I replaced the opener handle, that did the trick.

What bolts do you need? Unfortunately, a lot of the tailgate bolts or Torx/star bit type. You could substitute them for conventional hex bolts. You would have to measure the threads and such though.

I have a 95 4wd extended cab long bed, with 4in lift and 33x12.5s red and white two tone that has been a running driving Resto project this year, and just installed a flow master super 44 but am not real happy with the sound because my rear cat is clogged, and my rear o2 is behind the cat on the 96, how do I replace without welding
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 4 жыл бұрын
Zach LaGrange Nice! So you want to replace the cat and O2 sensor? If you don’t want to weld, you would just cut the cat out and use standard exhaust U clamps. The O2 sensor does require welding if your new set up does not have bung welder into the exhaust pipe.
