If you are feeling lazy, you don't need to take any of the brake stuff off. If your ballpoint has been replaced you can take the three bolts (rivets are replaced with volts when balljojnts replaced) out of the control arm for it rather than break the ball joint out of the knuckle. Just a couple more tips, this video is a great visual!

I use a 3/4 socket on lug nuts. No tapping, its a pretty much perfect fit

Oh boy let me tell you here in Illinois that lower ball joint was so corroded in the knuckle it was a big pain in the ass to get that out.

Did you replace the outer tie rod? the boot is gone...and would have been easier to remove axle if tie rod was removed from knuckle. great video.

Thanks for video. I just paid Ford 700.00 to replace passenger side & now car is pulling to drivers side. I'm going to replace drivers side & see if that corrects the pulling. 2013 Ford escape w/60k miles. Was vibrating on acceleration & turning to the right. Slight fluid discharge from passenger side CV at trans.

great video! today i just had my 2015 ford escape driver side cv axle replaced because it was clicking, i picked up my car and while i was backing into my driveway it was still clicking, on the way home it did drive smoother, i brought it back to the shop and he said he will look at it tomorrow, did you ever experience this before?

Have not had this issue. My first thoughts would be if the cv axle was not bad out of the box , then maybe the wrong side was diagnosed. Wish I could be more help and thanks for the question.

The first initial diagnosis were made by ford, doesn’t click all the time, like when you have the steering wheel turned all the way and you start giving it gas the left side starts clicking, when ford diagnosed it it was last year and it had some play in it, and he said you still have a while before you need a new one, so I’m hoping the cv axle a shop put in is defective

I have a 2016 Ford Escape and I have a vibration of front but it's feels like a tire but I'm not sure what it is I replace the spindle bearing on passenger side but it still makes a noise but it feels like it's on the driver side would that be an axle any information would be greatly appreciated thank you

Ive got less than 35000 on my 2016 Escape I had to replace the drivers side over a year ago ...now the drivers side is leaking ...so much for lasting 80000 miles like they say . Ive got a 2001 pt cruiser with 65000 miles and the cv boots have never been leaked

Did you have to top off the trans fluid level after? I just changed one and a decent amount of fluid came out with it

The torques are high on some since they are grade 10.9 steel

Is there not a clip inside the transmission on the shaft where you can see the groove on the axle?

What do you do if the shaft is seized in the hub? Just beat it out?

After soaking with wd40 and using the axle nut and a socket to pound it initially , if it still does not budge I move on to this method. I do this quite often and I have not as yet found one that would not come out. The most sever case I had recently I ruined the hub as well as the cv axle , but did get it out and used the knuckle. I have never had to get another knuckle , but I will say this , on the last car I could have purchased a used knuckle from ebay for $50. Depending on the difficulty of removing the cv from the hub it could take anywhere from 3 hours to a day. If everything goes smoothly Id say around 3 to 4 hours . Great question and thank you for watching.

This is the biggest nightmare to replace. I've done over a dozen CV axles on other vehicles, but this design is a pain. We can't get the lower control arm to swing down enough to pull the lower ball joint out of the socket it seats into. We can't get the spring to compress enough to get the strut free from its seat. There isn't room for spring compressors, and the whole steering knuckle is just trapped.

I used my jack to lift the knuckle itself up to give me more space to swing the lower control arm down. I had to use WD-40 and leave the car sitting overnight to get the lower ball joint to loosen up enough to get it out. Pain in the butt!
